My wolf surged to the surface, and a low growl rolled across my lips. Christopher’s brows raised. “Did you just growl?”

I was placid. It was an Omega thing. We were peacemakers. But what I wanted to do to Teesha wasn’t even a tiny bit peaceful. I was moving toward them before I consciously realized, which was usually a good indication that the wolf was riding me hard.

Christopher gripped my arm. “What are you doing, E?”

I shook my head. “Go back to getting slobbered on, Christopher. I’m safe with Bohdie.”

Christopher narrowed his eyes and he muttered something under his breath. “How can you know? He could just be hiding it well.”

He had a point, but really, that went for any Alpha in my life, including Carmen’s best friend Bobby. But I just shook my head. My wolf just knew sometimes. It knew with Bobby, and it knew with Bohdie.

“Trust my instincts, Christopher.”

My brother shook his head. “Don’t you realize, Enit? We trust your instincts more than anyone else's in the whole world. I just want you to be safe.”

I hugged him and then pushed him back toward the area where he’d been sitting. “Don’t get chlamydia,” I teased and strode over to where Bohdie was still trying to extricate himself from Teesha’s hands.

I cleared my throat and Teesha whipped around. “Excuse me? Can I have a moment with Bohdie?” I asked her politely.

“Fuck off, freak.”

Teesha wasn’t Alpha, but like Carmen, she was a very strong beta. It was why they hated each other so much. I resisted the urge to do what she said, but unlike with Carmen, if she threw a punch at me, there’d be hell to pay. And not just with the administration.

After the… attack in the bathroom, it seemed that the Apex Alphas—Alphas so strong that you knew they were destined for future leadership, like Christopher, Kingston, Bobby and a couple of others—got together and in no uncertain terms, put me off limits.

On pain of death.

Only one shifter had tested that limit. They didn’t go here anymore. So, while Teesha would be a bitch, she wouldn’t put her hands on me.

Bohdie didn’t know that though. His low, rumbling growl echoed around the clearing, and Christopher was by my side in an instant. Guess he didn’t trust my instincts that much after all. “Fuck off, Teesha,” Christopher snarled and she bared her teeth.

“Screw you, Christopher.”

Christopher visibly shuddered. “Once was enough. I’d rather stick my dick in a woodchipper than go back for seconds.”

Teesha flounced off, her eyes shiny and her cheeks flaming. I lowered my eyebrows. “That was a little harsh.”

Christopher let out an exasperated huff. “She called you a freak, E. She doesn’t deserve your empathy.”

I shrugged. Everyone deserved empathy, even trash beings like Teesha. “I’m fine, Christopher. You can go back to the party.”

My brother eyeballed Bohdie a little more, and whatever silent conversation they were having didn’t look like it was going well. Eventually, I shoved at Christopher’s chest and he strode away in a huff.

That just left me and Bohdie. “I don’t think your family likes me.”

A laugh burst from my lips. “Don’t take it personally. They don’t like anyone.”

He held out a hand and I stared at it for a moment, at his wide, flat palm and long, elegant fingers. He had beautiful hands, the kind you imagined running over your body. I placed my palm in his, and breathed through the jolt of our connection.

Bohdie pulled me softly closer until there were just the two of us in that clearing. Despite the smell of the fire and the raucous laughter, all I could see were those liquid gold eyes.

“Would you like me to kiss you?” he whispered, the warmth of his breath brushing my cheeks. He was tall, much taller than me, so I knew he must have already been curling toward me, the pull of our connection affecting him too.

There was only one answer to his question. “Yes,” I breathed, and his eyelids hooded as his irises darkened with desire.

He leaned closer and brushed his lips across mine, like he was tasting me, testing the waters. When I didn’t pull away, his lips pressed against mine harder. He pulled me closer until our clasped hands were pressed between our chests and his other hand was on my hip. He deepened the kiss, sliding his tongue past my lips and using it to stroke mine.

I let out a squeak of surprise, or maybe it was a moan of desire, and curled my body into his. It didn’t matter that we were at a party filled with our peers, seventy percent of whom could probably scent the desire pooling low in my body. This place was awash with the smell of lust.
