It was a heady feeling.

“The prince isan olc? A Dark Fae? Prince Nada?” Cedric voice got higher and louder with each question.

She nodded. “Yes. Why do you think he wants me dead?” Then she answered her own question. “Because I’m here to expose him, that’s why.”

Duncan frowned. “But he fought with us in the first war. He was on our side.”

“No. He wasn’t. But it all went awry, and the only way he could save himself was to pretend to be on the other side.” She turned more fully toward Duncan, until her knees brushed his thigh.

Duncan shifted in his chair. He was having trouble paying attention to the conversation. All he wanted to do was get her naked again and fuck her until neither of them could move.

Then, maybe, in a week or so, take her dancing so he could hold her in his arms. They could tease each other with the soft brush of her breasts on his chest, the whisper of a thigh between hers as they stepped around the floor. The scent of her desire rising around him, making her natural primrose scent earthy and heavy.

His nostrils flared and his cock hardened.

She touched his arm, drawing his attention back to her. “Cedric, I’m not like him. I’m not like them. I tried to stop him back then, and he killed me for it. Or rather, he tried.”

“What are ye sayin’, lass?”

“It seems my father is playing you and your pack. Just like he played my people. He betrayed them because they disagreed with his rule. The prince is the one whomadethe soul suckers. He’s the one who had the portal created to trap our people who wouldn’t go along with him. And now, I believe he’s trying to open it back up and release them.”

“But, why would he do that?” Duncan asked. “Surely, he kens tha’ if he releases th’ ones he put in there in th’ first place, they will no’ be pleased with him.”

“I think he’s betting on the fact they’ll be so grateful they’ll follow him without question. That he only meant them to be there temporarily while he figured out a plan to remove their biggest obstacle in his plan for world domination. Namely, you.”

Suddenly, Cedric’s eyes narrowed in on her. “How do ye ken all this, Ryanne? If what ye say is true, ye’ve been good as dead all these years. So, how would ye ken what yer father is up tae?”

“I have those that have been loyal to me.”

“Ye have spies?” Cedric asked her.

“Yes. But I won’t risk their lives by telling you who they are.”

“No, o’ course not,” he muttered. Pushing himself off the counter, Cedric began to pace the small space. “So, what are yer plans with th’ prince?” he asked Ryanne as he walked.

“Simple. I plan to kill him.”

“And how will ye do that, lass? He is th’ prince o’ yer people. Th’ entire tribe o’ Dark Fae. Tae become someone o’ such importance, he would need tae be very powerful. We have seen how powerful he is. He pulls us through space and time tae wherever he needs us tae go. For sure, he pulled yer name right out o’ Duncan’s head! He would ken if we turned against him.”

“Not necessarily,” she told him. “The reason he was able to do that to Duncan was because of the level of emotion involved. My people feed off of emotion, good or bad. And, no offense, but you wolves are full of them.”

Cedric nodded, then gave a self-depreciating laugh. “Aye. We shifters run hot. In all ways.”

“I believe my father plans to wipe out thena maithetribe, and anyone else who he can’t trick or convince to allow our people free reign in this world.”

A deep growl rent the air, and Duncan’s upper lip lifted in a snarl. An automatic response to his alpha’s distress.

“By trick, ye mean us,” Cedric said.

Unaffected by his show of aggression, she lifted one eyebrow. “Why do you think your wolves are suddenly mating with Faeries?”

Both wolves fell silent at that. But then Duncan shook his head. “No. No, that is no’ right. Brock’s mate, Heather, isna maithe. They were the first tae join. Why would th’ prince get them together if she’s no’ o’ his tribe? And why wouldn’t Heather ken?” He looked at Cedric and Cedric looked at him.

“Or does she ken?” Cedric asked to the room in general.

Ryanne shook her head. “She doesn’t know. And she’s not tricking anyone. Heather is young. As far as she’s known all her life, Prince Nada is who he says he is. She has no part in this.”

“She’s going tae be taken out,” Duncan concluded.
