With a helpless groan, he pressed her back onto the bed. But at the last minute, he rolled so she was on top. “Just in case,” he whispered.

He was all hard male and barely restrained power beneath her. She kissed his throat, his beard tickling her nose, then moved down his chest, running her tongue over his nipples before moving down his hard abs. She ran her lips and tongue over every letter of his tattoo, then crawled lower still.

Kohl stopped breathing all together.

As she took him into her mouth, she opened her eyes to find him watching her with a feral hunger burning in his eyes. His fingers twisted into her hair, pushing it back off her face so he could see.

“Holy fuck.” The words ended on a groan as she pulled him as far into her mouth as she could, and his head fell back against the pillow. He bent his knees and started thrusting with his hips, his entire body shuddering with need as he gasped her name.

The knowledge that she had a male as dangerous as Kohl completely at her mercy did things to Devon. Wonderful things. Dirty things. She couldn’t remember ever having been so turned on before by making someone else feel good.

“Devon, please. I want to be inside you. I need to be inside you.”

She actually whimpered. Hell, yes. She needed that, too. So she didn’t argue when he grasped her around her ribcage and dragged her up his body until she was poised perfectly above him. With her hands on his hard abs, she pulled her knees up to either side of his hips, gasping when he hit that little bundle of nerves.

He found and entered her with one powerful thrust. Devon cried out this time, her head falling back as she arched her body to better accommodate his size. Fully inside, he paused, breathing hard, staring up at her with that same wondrous look before the predator returned. Baring his fangs, he lifted her and thrust again.

She rocked her hips, catching his rhythm, her pulse pounding in her ears as the tension built once more in her womb. She was almost there when Kohl suddenly sat up and sank his fangs into her breast with a possessive growl. Devon came instantly and violently, her cries mixing with his sounds of pleasure as he joined her. When he finished, he licked lazily at the wound he’d made, kissed her other breast, then hugged her to him.

When Devon could breathe again and the world came back into focus, she lifted her head from where it rested on his chest and smiled. “See? I told you he liked me.”

Kohl’s answering smile reached all the way up to his eyes, once again sweet and nearly back to his normal brown. He pushed her hair back from her face. “Are you all right?”

She kissed him hard on the mouth. “Yes. I’m absolutely wonderful.”

“Thank God.” He hugged her again, then lay back on the bed, leaving her straddling his hips. “Good.” His fingers grazed her nipples, then her stomach, and she realized he was avoiding her eyes. A twinge of panic filled her until he said, “I was terrified, Dev. The entire time.” His eyes followed the trail of his fingertips as he traced the bite on her breast. “But my God, I’ve never had anything like you.”

She wondered if he was talking about the blood or the sex. “Can you still hear it? My blood?”

His eyes lifted to hers. “Yes. Like hearing my own heartbeat.”

A ripple of unease ran through her. A thread of uncertainty. She’d wanted to have sex with him. More than that. She’d felt the same need to claim him as he claimed to feel for her. She didn’t and wouldn’t ever regret that decision. But, she could have asked him not to feed any more from her. He would’ve obeyed her wishes. She was as certain of that fact as she was that she had been born on a Tuesday. However, she’d gotten caught up in the moment and had acted on impulse. She’d wanted to know what it would feel like to have him at her throat, fangs embedded deep. Well, now she knew. It was intimate and exciting and she’d never in her life experienced anything like it.

She just hoped she wouldn’t regret it.

He sat up again. “What is it? What’s wrong?” Cupping her face, he ran his thumb over her cheekbone. “Dev?”

She gave him a smile. “I just need a shower. And some sleep. A wet field isn’t the most comfortable place I’ve ever spent the night.”

“Sure,” he told her after a pause, and she knew she wasn’t fooling him. But he didn’t pursue it. “I think there’s even some extra clothes that will fit you good enough to sleep in if you’d like, though I prefer you just like this,” he teased. “Come on.”

Kohl made love to her again in the shower, holding her tight, like he was afraid she would disappear.

But he didn’t bite her again.

Chapter 15

In the corner of the room, Kohl watched Devon sleep from his spot on the floor and tried to calm his chaotic thoughts. Nearly impossible with the pulse of her blood singing with every beat of his heart. Not as strong as it was a few hours ago, but still there. All he could think about was the taste of her, the insane surge of strength and energy as her energy force invaded his body, flooding and expanding his cells until he felt he was about to bust out of his own skin.

Yet, even as it caused so much chaos with his vampire side, it had calmed the dragon. The beast had been there the entire time he’d made love to Devon, aware and watching, taking part while still contained. There had been three in the bed. Not two. A constant struggle inside of him between vampire and dragon. Kohl had managed to keep the beast in its lair, but barely.

Until the first sip of her blood.

Kohl didn’t understand it, and he had no one to ask, because he was the only one of his kind he was aware of. But feeding from her had somehow calmed the beast, satiating its lust until it was happy to let Kohl take the reins.

But it had still been there, hovering on the edge, aware of everything that had happened. It had enjoyed Devon’s hands and mouth and body just as Kohl had, and when he came the dragon roared with its own release.

With a sigh, Kohl pushed aside his anxious feelings and glanced upward. The sun was setting. Soon, it would be time for them to leave here, and he still hadn’t decided what he was going to do about Jaz. But at least he’d have no claim to Devon now. Any vampire would clearly be able to scent that she was Kohl’s. He had made sure of that. Kohl had no idea what had set him off, but luckily, Jaz’s bite had been quick. From the look of the wound and from what she’d told him, Jaz hadn’t had enough time to drink much. She could leave, go somewhere far away. At least until all of this mess with Jaz was over. If it had just been a case of Jaz following him out of curiosity, Kohl wouldn’t have this sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. But he hadn’t acted alone. Three other vampires had been there with him, all dead now, and there was no way in hell they’d followed Jaz out there. One of the others had to have been in charge, and Jaz, follower that he was, had just gotten roped into it. The one thing Kohl didn’t know, was why they’d come after him and Devon at all?
