“Gray, please,” I let out, trying to calm him down, but it’s useless.
Eye snapping to mine, I’ve never seen him this enraged in all the years I’ve known him. Teeth clenched too tightly, I can see every muscle in his jaw. Hands fisted, and chest heaving quickly. Grayson is losing control.
“Don’t talk to me!” he yells.
“Don’t talk to her like that!” Reid snaps protectively.
His younger brother glares daggers at him, trying to reach for Reid still, but Sawyer holds him tighter. “I told you to stay away from my friends!” Grayson grounds out.
Getting loose from Sawyer’s arms, Grayson tackles Reid once again on the ground.
I let out a sob as Sawyer and Holden manage to break up their fight.
Austin comes running over, hearing the commotion. “What is going on here?”
“Reid is a jerk, that’s what!” Grayson barks as their dad stands between them, glowering. “He stole Macie!”
“I didn’t steal her!” shouts Reid.
I blanch again, my heart thundering.
Grayson’s eyes find mine, and I feel small and weak with the way he’s fuming. “How could you do this to me?” he mutters bitterly, the strain making my spine shiver.
Lips trembling, I whisper, “I’m so sorry, Gray.” I hear the remorse in my tone.
He scoffs loudly, pulling Sawyer’s hands off him and stalks back towards the house.
I glance at Reid’s heavy gaze for a moment before rushing after my friend.
“Gray,” I shout, but he doesn’t break his stride.
Gripping onto his arm, Grayson pushes me off with ease. “Don’t touch me,” he seethes.
“G—”
“I said don’t touch me!” The pain in his tone makes my chest ache. Hands fly to his hair, digging aggressively as he turns away. “I can’t even look at you, Macie.”
Moisture strings at my eyes at how wounded he is.
I did that. I hurt him.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you—”
“Were you ever going to?” His voice drops, sounding strained.
I nod quickly, running my tongue across my parched lip. “I was. I wanted to. I—”
“Then why didn’t you? Why did you wait for me to find out like this?” he shouts again. “Why didn’t you just tell me?”
“I...” My breath catches in my throat, thick and burning with saliva. “I didn’t want to hurt you.”
“No.” He shakes his head, stepping away from me. “All you did was hurt me. I’m not forgiving you for this, Macie.”
“What?” I rasp out, feeling like he’s just punched me in the gut.
“This is unforgivable. I told you that my brothers were off limits, and then you…” He looks over my shoulder then back down at me, his chest rising and falling quickly, shoulders squaring. “You betrayed me.”
I choke on an inhale, not expecting him to say that.
