My mouth feels so dry, and the air in here has become so thin that I can’t suck in a breath. I shakily pick up the stick, staring at it, gaze is locked on the little pink lines.

Positive.

I breathe out, “How?” I’m utterly shocked with what’s happening.

Laynie lifts her head, blinking at me through the mirror with blurry eyes and black tears falling from her lashes.

I shake my head, stammering, “I-I mean, I knowhow. But how? When?” My breath catches in my throat. “Grayson?”

That seems to set her off again.

I wrap my arms around her, holding onto her tightly as she braces herself against the basin.

Shoulders shaking, she shakes her head. “No.”

My eyes widen, staring at her through the mirror.

It’s not Grayson’s?

“But you can’t tell him, please,” Laynie adds, spinning to face me, eyes flared. “Promise me that you won’t tell him!”

“W—what?” I stutter, now filled with even more questions than before, making my brain hurt.

More sobs wrack her body. “Please, you can’t tell him.” She shakes her head again. “He can’t know.”

“Laynie, he’s our friend, and you lo—” I stare down at the stick again.

Laynie’s pregnant, but it’s not Grayson’s baby?

What is happening?

“That’s why he can’t know.” Her voice cracks, a river of water falling down her face.

I numbly nod and pull her against me, holding her tightly as she breaks apart. My own body trembles as I try to think of who it could be. I didn’t know she’d been with anyone. For all I knew, she was waiting to be with Grayson, who she loves.

“Who was it, Laynie?” I ask warily, afraid of the answer.

Her sniff is loud against my ear when she answers me, and my heart plummets into the pit of my stomach.

Crap.

TEN MONTHS LATER

Iclickthebuttonandwait. My hands are a little sweaty, and I feel every jolt of my pulse as I stare at the screen. The stupid blue button is swirling around and around while my knee jiggles against the wooden floor.

“Come on,” I breathe, getting impatient with my laptop.

Of all the times to freeze…

The page refreshes, and I sigh in relief at the sight.

SUBMITTED is sprawled across the screen, and my lips curl into a massive grin.

Shutting my laptop, I jump off the bed and race downstairs to find Grayson, Axel and Reid whispering like they’re conspiring something. All three of them look at me, and I let out a chuckle of disbelief.
