“At least let me help pay for things.”

“No.”

I level him with a glare. “G…”

“No,” he repeats firmly.

“You’re impossible.”

Grayson snickers, uncrossing his arms. “I think you mean awesome because I’m your friend who is looking out for you.”

Staring at him for a long beat, I nod slowly. “You’re awesomish…”

He snorts a laugh, drawing me into a hug. “I’ll take it, you stubborn girl.”

“Says you.”

He laughs again, the sound deep against my ear. “Thank you.”

“Always, M.” I catch his wink before he shoves his hands in his trackpant pockets. “All right, get changed into something comfy, we’re leaving right after dinner. Laynie and Delly will meet us there.”

He leaves me alone in my room, and I sit on the edge of my bed, fingers digging into the bedspread as my knee starts vibrating.

I hate lying to him. He’s the first friend I made when I moved here, and I never want to hurt him. But the thought of being with Reid and kissing him makes my toes curl tightly. I bite back a smile.

I finally kissed Reid Lawson.

“Are we seeing the alien movie?” Laynie asks, looking to Grayson for an answer.

Cole scoffs loudly on her other side. “Yawn. Not more aliens. We need something a bit more realistic.”

“You don’t think aliens are realistic?” Sawyer questions, raising a brow at his younger brother.

Cole shakes his head. “I’ve never seen one before.”

“You’ve never seen a million dollars in person either, do you think that’s fake too?”

“I could have a million dollars in my hand one day,” Cole mutters with a shrug.

Grayson chuckles before pointing to a western themed movie. “This one? Or are cowboystoorealistic for us?”

“Nah, cowboys are sick,” Cole snickers.

“Please never say sick in that way again,” Reid grumbles from beside me.

Reid flashes me a small grin before giving his brothers his attention once more, but it’s enough to ignite that flame deep in the pit of mystomach. As much as I like seeing him sweaty and sun-drenched, I also like his freshly showered look, with fluffed up hair and smelling of soap. Changing from his muscle-hugging tee into a flannel makes him look more rugged, and my fingers tingle at his proximity.

I wish I could slide my fingers into his, but not with Grayson being this close.

Laynie sighs loudly, drawing back my attention to the group. “We better decide quickly because they all start in ten minutes, and I’mnotmissing the previews.”

“Previews are one of the best parts,” Grayson adds in agreement.

Sawyer frowns at them. “You two are strange,” he mutters before lining up to grab our tickets.

I feel someone grab my hand, and Laynie’s shimmering blue eyes meet mine. “I want popcorn,” she chimes.

I let my tight smile loosen. “Now that’s a part of the movies I can agree with.”
