“I will!” Delly says, and I bite down a smile. “I’ll help you, L. Hazel will be fine with all the boys.”
Grayson sighs, “All right. I’ll tell Mum then that you’ll be with Laynie. Easy done.” He takes a muffin. Humming with happiness, he polishes it off in a few bites. “What’s in this, L? It’s so good,” he asks through a mouthful.
She smile, lifting up and down on the balls of her feet excitedly. “Orange and dark chocolate.”
“Crap, I think I might be addicted now.” Grayson reaches for another one, but Laynie bats his hand away.
“I need these for customers. I’ll bring you any leftovers tonight. We are still having the movie night at yours, right?”
Grayson pouts. Cole answers for him. “Yep. The movie starts at seven, so don’t be late.”
“Well, the first will be kid friendly for Aspen, then we can watch something better.”
“I love kid movies,” I add.
Grayson grins at me. “I know you do.”
Cole grabs the two trays of coffees I hand over, and I hand the third to Delly, letting her rush back to work.
Reaching for the towel, I look at Laynie curiously as she stares at the now empty door. “Laynie?”
“Mmm,” she hums, blinking at me.
My lips curl into a grin. “Is there something you want to tell me?”
Her eyes widen, and a rush of trepidation shoots through me when her hand squeezes my arm. “What do you mean?”
Eyes searching hers, I say, “I’m talking about you and Grayson. You like him.”
“Oh,” she breathes out, almost in relief.
I frown. “Oh?”
“I mean, yes. That’s exactly what I meant.” She goes to move, but I grab a hold of her arm again.
“Is it?” I question, dropping my voice.
Blinking down at me, Laynie nods quickly. I can tell there’s something else, but if she doesn’t want to talk about it, then I won’t force her.
“So you and Grayson, huh?”
Her features soften. “You and Reid, huh?”
“Touche,” I whisper, and she giggles. I try biting back a smile, but it breaks free on my face. Laynie gives me a curious look. “Reid kissed me.”
And her crystal eyes widen. “What!”
“Yeah.”
“No way!”
I let out a giggle as she pulls me into a hug. “It only took twelve years.”
“I know, and it was so good, Laynie.”
She gives a small squeal before letting go, beaming widely. “Tell me everything.”
“I will, but please promise me that you won’t tell G until I do. Please, Laynie.”
