I tighten my arms around him. “I’m sorry.”
“Me too. They would have liked you.”
“I’m sure the feeling would be mutual.”
“I hope so.”
“I know so. They made you and Shelby, didn’t they?”
He huffs a laugh. “Only the best parts.”
“They’re all great parts, Walker.”
“I’m not sure about that. My judgment has not been the best in the past when it comes to women.”
“And I’d have to say the same for myself when it comes to men.”
His arms around me tighten. “We’ve got it right now, though.”
“Yeah, I think we do.”
We’re still wrapped in each other’s arms when Blake interrupts us.
“Is it okay to give my brothers your address, Walker? They’ve got a possible lead on our hot shot.”
“You still haven’t told me who you’re hunting.” He removes one arm from around me and turns us both to face Blake who gives us a look because we’re still on our knees.
She must decide it’s not worth a question because the next words out of her mouth are, “Lattimer. Branton Lattimer.”
I feel the jolt go through Walker. I know what he’s thinking. I’ve got the same reservations but unlike me he doesn’t immediately reject the idea.
Blake drills me with her gaze. “And don’t you start. I know what you think.”
“I’ve read the report. We all have.”
“Yes. But that’s all bare bones facts and doesn’t take into account the human factor.”
“He turned up to a game drunk?—”
“Again.” Blake puts up a hand. “I don’t want to hear it. Not until you’ve met him.”
“What’s the lead your brother has?”
“Brothers, plural. The twins think he’s living at a friend’s place in?—”
“Parry Sound,” Walker finishes for her.
“You know where he is?”
“Yeah, the place he’s staying belongs to Gannon.”
“Gannon Byrd?”
“Yes.”
Blake shakes her head. “Dammit. I told those shitheads I’d owe them a favor if they came through for me and all I had to do was ask you.”
I grin at her. “They’re going to make you do the ice dip again, aren’t they?”
