Prologue - Easton

“What the actual fuck?” My ass drops into my chair while I stare at the footage on my phone with growing horror.

“What? What is it?” Vivi demands as she leans over and grabs my wrist, tilting the phone in her direction. “Is that…?”

“If you’re going to say a baby, then yes, yes, I do believe that’s whatthatis.”

How is there a baby on my fucking doorstep?

Whyis there a baby on my fucking doorstep?

“Who would leave a baby at your front door?” she asks as if I have the fucking answer. “Wait.” Her eyes snap up to mine. “Is it yours?”

I’m sure the look I give her says it all, but I growl “no” anyway.

“Sorry, just checking. Although…” She cocks one of her eyebrows, her expression screaming how skeptical she is of my answer before her words confirm her thoughts. “It could be yours.”

“No, it fucking couldn’t.”

“If you’ve had sex in the last…” She leans in again, pulls the phone closer to her face and studies the live video feed on the screen. “How old do you think that baby is?”

“No fucking clue, but it can’t be mine because I haven’t had my dick in a pussy in over two years.” My words grind up my throat like jagged rocks and force their way through clenched teeth. “Which means if I’d hit the target the last time I had sex we’d be looking at a toddler.”

Vivi’s plump lips form a perfect O and all I can think is how well they’d fit around my neglected dick.

Jesus fucking Christ. Get it together, man. There’s ababyon your fucking doorstep!

A rumble of thunder has my gaze darting to the windows of the upscale restaurant Vivi and I just arrived at.

Our first date.

I’ve worked long and hard to convince the woman across from me to give me a chance. Two days ago, after months and months of rejections, she finally relented and agreed to go out with me.

And now I have to end it before we’ve even looked at the menu.

Vivi

“You can’t be serious?”

“Deadly. I don’t know what to do with him.”

“He’s a baby. You feed him, burp him, change him, put him to bed.”

“See! I didn’t know any of that.”

I laugh. “You so did.”

Shaking my head, I stare at the man I’ve lusted after since the moment I laid eyes on him. Strangely, the addition of a baby pressed against his hot body doesn’t detract from his appeal.

“Okay, fine.” He looks down at the baby held close to his chest, one big hand cradling the back of a tiny head, the other on an equally tiny, diaper-clad butt, proving he knows at least a little bit about babies. “I know the basics.”

“Then why do you need me to move in with you?” I’m not going to lie, his request sent a thrill through me but I quickly squash that nonsense.

“Because I can’t work, take care of him, and find out who his mother is without someone helping me.”

“Ah, right.” My fingers flex. “You want my skills.”

Easton’s gaze rakes me from head to toe and every hair on my body stands on end as though the look is a physical touch.
