"I'm not getting any younger.I want those babies now."
"You want—" Laughter knocked her back on the bed and he followed her down.Pressed the length of his body over hers.
"We can fly home via Vegas."
"No.We can talk to someone.Get married here.On the ship."
"I'm tempted to drag you out of bed and go do it before you change your mind."He brushed her lips with his."But I think we'll seal the deal here first then go find out what we have to do to get married tomorrow."
"New Year's Eve."
"Perfect. We'll start the new year how we mean to spend it.Together."
Epilogue
Sarah stared at the ring on her finger and smiled. They were taking a quick stop in New York City to visit her family before returning to Winter Lake. She wanted them to meet Asha, tell them she'd gotten married.
She hoped her parents would understand why she'd chosen to marry a man they didn't know as anything other than her boss.Although technically she worked for the municipality of Winter Lake not for the Chief of Police.
She couldn’t help grinning at her realization that Asha isn’t actually her boss and never had been.
"What are you smiling about?"Asha's hand brushed over her lower back.
"I'm happy and you aren’t my boss."
"What?"
"We both work for the municipality.I think that makes the mayor our boss."
He shook his head."Why the hell were you thinking about that?"
"Oh, I was wondering how my parents were going to take us being married so quickly. They don't know you as anything other than my boss. And that got me thinking?—"
"I get it.”He frowned down at her.“Are you worried they'll be upset?"
"I think they will be but only because they couldn't be there."
"We've got the pictures to show them."
"Yes, we do."She smiled up at her husband."I love you, husband."
"And I love you, wife."He brushed her lips with his and neither of them could stop the kiss from going deeper in spite of them being in the back of a cab.
The clearing of a throat broke them apart."We're here," the driver grumbled.
"Thanks."Asha passed him some cash and opened the door."Just pop the trunk, I'll get our bags."
Following her husband—she could not stop thinking of him that way—out of the car she waited for him to have their bags in hand before leading the way up to her parents front door.
"Worried?"Asha asked.
"No."She glanced at him over her shoulder."They'll soon see you're the best thing to happen to me."
"I think that's my line."
"We can share. We're good at that."She winked.
He dropped their bags at the front door and pulled her into his arms."Yes, we are.And I can't wait to see what else we'll share in this life together Mrs.Yunker."
Sarah smiled into their kiss. She might not have actually sat on Santa's lap and whispered her Christmas wish but he'd still delivered the only thing on her list.
Her Santa crush.
