“You’re saying I can visit Ma in Mictlan?” I was in disbelief.

“Yes, my daughter, but only every Samhain, when the veil is at its thinnest.”

“I’ll come next Autumn and I'll be there.” I hugged him tightly, ready to pack my bags.

El Micta, not knowing what to do, stood in awkwardness. “I will see you soon, and I will send your mother your regards.” He kissed my cheek and vanished into embers and smoke. I don’t think that man has been hugged like that in a very long time. I smirked at the thought.

I fell to my knees and wept. “She’s alive, Jax, Ma is alive! This changes everything, don’t you see.” Jax’s silence was so loud it drowned me. “What is it?” I asked, concerned.

“Faye, when I leave for Valhalla, the longer I spend there, the more my Reaper form takes permanent place.” He refused to look at me.

“Why didn’t you say anything to me?” I attempted to get him to look at me.

“Because I knew you’d let it change your mind and I couldn’t have that,” he replied, his eyes finally meeting mine.

“You’re afraid I wouldn’t love you in your true form?” I bit his bottom lip. “It’s literally my favorite.” I confessed feverishly.

Jax grabbed my ass, squeezing it and slapping my cheeks as he made his mark on my skin. “Oh really, little witch,” he purred.

“Mhhhm.” I gripped his hard girthy length, waiting for Death to take me and fuck me so hard, I’d see a glimpse of heaven.

“Ew, get a room, you perverts!” Rocky placed Penny into Ryker’s arms and snarled at him, flashing him her fangs.

“I’d prefer you save your flirting for the bedroom, princess,” he responded to her antics, causing Penny to roll her eyes. “You need to hunt, and right now it looks like that will be difficult for you to do without my help. So I’d start with being nicer, Princess.”

Penny sighed, exasperated. “Don’t pet name me, you filthy sack of bones! Do you know who my father is?” She dusted off her very dirty and raggedy clothes, as if it would make a difference. Miss. Nightbloom needed to be humbled, and quick. Reapers only bowed to Odin.

“I do, and I say this with all the disrespect… I really could give a fuck less. He is your king, not mine, princess!” Ryker’s Reaper was making its presence known.

Penny knew she wouldn’t stand a chance in the world battling a Reaper, with her being famished and weak.

“I feed and then you take me home. The sun will be rising soon and I need to feed as well as get my moonstone antidote,” she gasped between breaths, still weak.

Raquel handed Ryker the keys to her place. “I’m only trusting you because my cousin’s life is in your hands.”

Rocky glanced at Penny. “I promise you, you’re safe, because if not I will rip him to fucking pieces.” Rocky turned to Ryker, threatening him with onyx eyes.

“Well, you heard her, sack of bones!” Penny demanded. He lifted Penny in a cradled position, knowing she was too weak to fight back.

“Oh, you are so fucking lucky I haven’t fully fed. You are so very brave, Mr. Grimwood,” she spat at him, looking tiny in his arms. We all chuckled lightly.

“Shut up or I’ll leave you out in the scorching sun, spoiled ass.” His rebuttal muted Penny with shock and fury.

“Oh, you wouldn’t dare!” She kicked and screamed in his hold.

“You’re welcome for saving your life by the way, princess,” Ryker mocked. “If you’re nice, maybe I’ll get you that moonstone antidote.” He winked at her mischievously.

Penny’s nose was in the air, her arms crossed. The entitlement was suffocating the air. Ryker carefully sat Penny on his Harley bike. I could see the shocking tenderness he was giving her. Was it in a Reaper’s nature to be so tender? Could Death really be a tender lover? The question ached in my chest. I watched on as Ryker and Penelope rode off into the night.

“Your brother better not touch a single hair on my cousin’s head!” Raquel hissed at Creed

“Well, if it makes you feel any better, she’s not with me, so she will be just fine, cupcake.” Creed’s Reaper’s split tongue licked off the blood of his enemies from his rugged hands.

“Gods, you Reapers are filthy, I swear.” Raquel dramatically gagged in her mouth.

“I set up ten detonating bombs in the building. In exactly ten minutes they will be setting off. So, I would move that perky round ass, little vicious, and I mean fast!” He tipped his hat at Raquel. Without another word, his bike roared to life and he took off.

“Saddle up, let's go!” Jax demanded. We raced back home into the night, only the beaming stars above us visible. Wefollowed Jax and Creed on their bikes, their Reaper shadows blending into the night sky, the full moon illuminating the windy desert roads.
