She flashes a smile at me. “You can still enjoy a movie. I have no idea how long this will take.”
Chapter 15 - Mira
The lab is quiet. Two of the senior developers are here, looking frustrated and tired, but apart from that, it’s empty. No one works weekends unless they really have to, which is why weekends were always my favorite times to be here.
“Hi Jake, hi Logan, you guys having no luck?” I say, walking into the server room.
“We’ve rebooted the whole system now, so we’re hoping it might help bring the problem to light,” Jake groans, throwing his hand in the air in frustration.
“Sorry, we had to call you in, but we’ve been fighting for hours, and it’s getting us nowhere,” Logan explains.
“You two can go. I’ll take over and see if I can solve it,” I say, noting the relief in their eyes.
Jace walks into the server room behind me, surprising me, and both tech guys sit up straighter and try their best not to look like a train wreck of exhaustion.
“Alpha, hello, how are you?” Logan mumbles, standing up to greet the leader of our pack.
“Hi guys, don’t mind me, I’m just here for moral support,” Jace says, smiling. “What program is messing up?” he asks.
“It’s a program we’re meant to be presenting at the community meeting this coming week. We’re going to offer it to all the packs to use, a gesture of goodwill to aid our pack status. But it’ll be totally useless if it’s not functional.” Logan is distressed.
“I’ll get it working, guys. I built this program. This is my baby. I know every inch of it,” I muse. Poor guys should havecalled me hours ago. But I’m glad they didn’t. I had such an incredible day today.
“Go on, you two, you can go home,” I say again, when they stand awkwardly doing nothing and looking bewildered. Apparently, bringing the Alpha to the tech lab freaks the nerds out.
I giggle at the thought. They don’t like seeinganyone, never mind the highest-ranking pack member.
“Thanks, Mira. We’ll be in early tomorrow morning.” Logan smiles, nodding his head, and Jace, before grabbing his things to leave.
“Thanks, guys,” I say, ushering them out.
I sit down at the desk surrounded by several computers and squint at the stream of code running across it. Already, I can see two issues.
Jace sits down on a sofa in the corner of the server room.
Turing toward him, I tilt my head to the side. “What are you doing?” I ask, confused.
“Relaxing, why?” he says, pulling his phone from his pocket.
“I thought you were just dropping me off. There’s no reason for you to stay,” I explain.
“I’ve got some things to do,” he says, gesturing to his phone. “I promise I won’t disturb you at all,” he smiles.
“But… you can go home. You really don’t have to be here,” I say again, still confused.
“I’m staying, Mira. I’m your company for the evening,” he insists.
“But Jace, it’s…”
“Mira,” he chuckles, “I’m not going anywhere. But you won’t even know I’m here. I won’t disturb you at all.”
I narrow my eyes, wondering why in the world he’d want to stay. But at the same time, it makes me feel special. I scrunch my nose and bite my lower lip. “Ok,” I mutter, turning back to the computers. “But you can leave any time if you change your mind.”
I just hope he doesn’t distract me too much. I really have to get this done.

True to his word, Jace is quiet and lets me work freely. Not only does he not disturb me, but he also supplies a constant flow of fresh coffee and biscuits to keep me energized.
