I listen, gathering reactions so I can tell Jace about it later.

Some people are excited. They discuss a new era and how it will change everything. Some people could hardly care less, as long as there’s meat on the table, it makes no difference who gets it. Others are outright offended and don’t hold back on giving their opinions.

Each of the three visiting packs has an assortment of opinions.

It’s hard to tell which opinion appears to be the most common.

“That dress makes you stand out,” a voice chuckles, and I turn to see a good-looking guy standing behind me.

“Thank you,” I say cautiously, wondering if he’s mocking me.

“Honestly, you look absolutely stunning. I’ve been struggling to keep my eyes off you, so I had to come over and say hello,” he grins, charming and forward.

Is he flirting with me? Is that what this is? I’ve never been flirted with before, so this is horrifyingly new to me.

I shift from one foot to the other, hyper-aware that I am somewhat of a public figure, and while this guy clearly doesn’t know who I am, I need to handle this situation with grace and turn him down politely.

“I’m Tyson,” he smiles, holding out his hand to shake mine.

“I’m Mira,” I reply, taking his hand and shaking courteously.

“Mira, what a beautiful name,” he purrs.

Damn, this guy looks like he’s ready to drag me into the woods.I chuckle inwardly. I’m in no way attracted to him, butI do feel a bit pleased that someone thought I looked pretty tonight. Pretty enough that they boldly came over here to let me know about it and make a move.

“What pack are you from, Tyson?” I ask, preparing to tell him that I am the Luna of this pack. Easing him into it is so as not to embarrass the guy or sound rude.

“New Salem. We were pretty impressed about the Omega hunt…”

Before he can finish his sentence, I am practically lifted off my feet and ripped from the conversation.

“Hey, don’t grab her like that!” Tyson growls, but when he sees Jace, he gets a fright, realizing he’s confronting the Alpha of this pack.

His voice changes, but he still stands his ground. “Come on, man, that’s not how you treat a lady,” Tyson says.

“My mate,” Jace growls viciously. “My mate, whom you were making moves on!” he snarls.

Before Tyson can reply, Jace has dragged me away from the party to a private space distance away in the meadow, where no one can hear us. He looks furious, with eyes that pierce black and nostrils flaring. “You belong to me, Mira.In case you forgot, you are mymate!”he growls beneath his breath, gripping my arm tightly.

Anger surges through me.

“Get your hands off me,” I snap, pushing him away.

Chapter 14 - Jace

Her eyes are glowing with anger as she shoves me away from her. I don’t let go of her arm, shaking her and demanding she acknowledge what she did wrong.

“My mate, flirting with another man, how does that make me look?” I snarl.

She scoffs. “Flirting? I was doing no such thing. And how dare you humiliate me in front of another pack member as though the Luna of the Rose Falls Pack can’t betrusted. As though she’s some loose, unfaithful wolf who would ever even think about dishonoring her mate!” she snarls back at me. “You embarrassed me horribly now, Jace. I had that conversation under control. If you’d waited another fifteenseconds, you would’ve heard me introducing myself as theLunaand doing it in apoliteway that didn’tdisrespectthe man!”

My chest tightens. Fuck. That did look bad… me dragging her away like a jealous infant.

I clench my jaw and squeeze my eyes shut, scolding Jux for making me so impulsive.

“Mira, I’m…”

“I’m not done!” she demands, pulling her arm free of my grip. “I’m also furious that you reduce me to nothing more than ‘your mate’. Yes, I am your Luna, I am your mate… but I’m alsoMira. I’m a person. A whole person with thoughts, feelings, and choices. And if you can’t trust me, if youdon’thave faith in me to handle situations like that one… how will I ever be a good fit for you?” she demands.
