He pulled out a card from his wallet and handed it over as Cruz and Brady ran ahead like two mischievous little boys chasing after a new shiny toy.

Maxi pouted but came to link her arm through mine just like old times.

“You’re happy,” she said, and it wasn’t a question.

“I am.”

She gave my arm a squeeze. “That’s all any of us here ever wanted for you.”

“I miss you.”

“Miss you, too.”

“But right now, we’re going to go have some fun.”

She giggled. “I don’t think we’ve spent an afternoon just enjoying one of these things in years.”

“I’d say we’re long overdue then.”

So, we did.

We rode every ride, and we ate all the food.

Clay even won me a giant panda stuffed animal. I had no idea how we were going to fit that thing in the car to get it home, but even if I had to strap it to the roof, it was going to happen because my mate had won it for me.

It was funny being on the other side of things for once.

I had always thought these things were cheesy, but I couldn’t stop grinning every time I looked up and saw that ridiculous oversized stuffed panda riding on Clay’s shoulder as we walked the grounds.

Brady laughed and shook his head.

“Man, you look ridiculous.”

Clay just grinned and shrugged.

“But my girl’s happy and that’s all that matters to me.”

This was my new life now filled with love and laughter.

I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.

My visit at the fair was short but refreshing. It was good to see everyone, but when the time came to say goodbye, I didn’t feel sad. I’d gotten the closure I needed with promises to see them again soon.

“I’m ready to go home,” I admitted to Clay.

He had a twinkle in his eye.

“Blindfolded…”

I giggled and nodded.

I had no idea what our future would hold, but I knew it was going to be the adventure of a lifetime.
