“Winnie, are you okay?”
I sighed. “I’m fine.” I turned to glare at Ruby. “You called the Alpha?”
“Yeah, or more like my brother and one of Clay’s best friends.”
Apparently, he hadn’t come alone as more cars started pulling up to the house and soon Wyatt, Emmett, Austin, and James all walked inside.
“Was there a break in or something?” James asked stopping to examine the door. “I didn’t bring any paperwork with me. Austin just said Clay needed us right away.”
I looked at the five large men before me and wanted to cry. They didn’t even know why they were here, but they came to support Clay. I’d never had anyone in my life that would show up and go to bat for me like these men were for him. I wasn’t even confident my parents would.
“Hey, it’s okay,” Wyatt said wrapping his big arms around me and holding me.
I sobbed in his arms, wishing he were Clay.
James kept a level head and started asking questions to figure out what was going on.
“Winnie, did someone hurt you?”
I shook my head.
“No,” Wyatt confirmed for me.
“Was someone in the house?”
“No,” I said sniffing loudly and realizing I was getting Wyatt’s shirt wet.
“Where’s Clay?”
I shrugged “He shifted and went for a run.”
“Without you?” Thomas asked.
I nodded. “He doesn’t want me,” I whispered.
“Winnie, I promise you that’s not true,” Ruby said the same time all five men bellowed with laughter.
“What happened to the door, Winnie?” James asked.
I frowned and pulled away from Wyatt to look at the door.
“Clay couldn’t get it open when he came back. I hadn’t answered my phone because I was talking to my parents, and he barged in knocking it off its hinges.”
Austin laughed.
“A mating male is never sane,” Emmett said shaking his head.
“Yeah, but Clay? Come on guys, this doesn’t sound like him at all,” Thomas reminded them.
“Where’s Clay now?” James asked.
“I already told you he went for a run in his wolf.”
“But why?” James pressed.
I stared at the ground.
“Come on Winnie. You know why, don’t you?”
