“We really appreciate you bringing her out here to see us. We were wrong to barge in on you and your Alpha’s territory the way we did.”
Clay nodded in understanding. “If I thought she was in trouble or needed me like that, I’d walk through hell and not give a damn whose territory it was to get to her.”
Mom hugged him and I bit back the sting of tears in my eyes.
“Your wolf is noticeably calmer now.”
He laughed. “Turns out mating was making my wolf overly aggressive. I’m just sorry you both had to see me that way. I promise, I am not a tyrant or overbearing in any way. I love your daughter, though, and there is nothing I won’t do to protect her.”
“Or to see her happy,” my mother added.
“We are here, aren’t we?”
“How?” I asked. “How did you manage this?”
Another car pulled up before he could answer that and Wyatt, Kate, Brady, and Cruz stepped out.
Dad stiffened.
“Relax,” Clay said. “Thomas insisted. He doesn’t trust my wolf fully yet.”
“We’re just here to make sure the treaty sticks,” Wyatt explained.
“And he sent you two idiots with them to watch me?” Clay teased referring to Brady and Cruz.
Brady leaned down and hugged me.
Clay didn’t even growl, and his wolf showed no signs of stress or aggression.
“Gone are the days of life threats and promises of bodily harm,” he teased.
“I’m not testing that theory. You’re a moron,” Cruz told him.
Brady let me go and I introduced them all to my parents.
“And this is my best friend in the whole world, Maxi.”
She put her arm around me.
“Hey y’all. I have tickets and wrist bands for everyone.”
“Yes,” Cruz cheered. “Is that spaceship ride here? The one that goes round and round and sucks you to the wall?”
“Yep,” Maxi confirmed.
Cruz and Brady grinned at Clay expectantly.
“No,” he told them.
“Why not?” I asked. “That’s one of my favorite rides.”
“Mine too,” Maxi admitted.
Clay leaned over and whispered into my ear. “I am never setting foot in that soul sucking death trap again, unless you think you can persuade me. I bet sex in that thing could be fun.”
“Clay, we can all hear you.”
“Yeah, dude, I don’t think that’s possible,” Brady explained.
