“Give it up next for Winnie and Denver, her bucking bronco,” the announcer’s voice rang out.
My wolf stirred once more.
As if in slow motion I turned to see the beautiful bronco emerge from its stall. Up and down, rocking back and forth, the bronco’s thunderous hooves hit the ground. But that wasn’t what I was drawn to.
The woman atop the horse pumping one fist in the air while holding on tightly to the beast she rode captured my attention.
She was beautiful as her dark curly hair flew with the wind. Her smile lit up the entire stadium. I was enraptured.
Mine,my wolf growled in my head.
My breath caught in my chest at the reality.
A mate?
I had a mate?
I stared at the woman in shock and then my brow furrowed as she bolted around a barrel making the turn so tight I couldn’t fathom how she was keeping her seat on the bronco, especially without a saddle.
Anger boiled within me.
She could get hurt.
She could die.
My whole body shook as I saw red.
I had to save her.
It felt like an out of body experience as I moved towards the arena and prepared to jump the fence. The two guys I’d seen earlier must have been watching me because suddenly their hands were on me, and a roar ripped through me just as Winnie ended her show. The cheers from the crowd drowned out the noise.
“We don’t want no trouble here,” one of the guys said. “Just go on and get out of here.”
My hands were sprouting fur already and I couldn’t stop it.
“Boys. Do we have a problem here?” the voice from earlier said.
“Do we?” the guy asked me.
“No ma’am,” I said not taking my eyes off of the guys.
“Run along. You’re going to be late for your part of the show. You do not want to piss off Dane, do ya?” she told them. As they scurried off at her warning, she turned towards me glaring with wild eyes. “I don’t have time to deal with you. Go away,” she told me before pivoting and walking away as her hair whipped across my face.
I caught her scent and my wolf howled in my head.
Mine!he insisted.
I tried to follow her, but apparently that Maxi girl was right and the behind the scenes stables really were off-limits. Only now there were people guarding them. Unfortunately, all my wolf saw were threats keeping me from my mate.
Not here,I warned him. We’ll find her, but you cannot wolf out here.
I was trying to stay calm, but I felt anything but.
I scoured the area walking away from the show and catching glimpses of her here and there.
One of the guys that had set off my wolf earlier had her cornered in her bronco’s stable as she tried to settle him in.
My wolf saw red.
