I sighed. “I hope not. I’m not a tyrant. I swear.”

“Are you sure about that?”

I felt bad about how I was handling things, but I couldn’t help it.

“Lord help us if we have a daughter someday. I’m just gonna pray for all boys. I don’t think you can handle girls very well,” she muttered.

The joy that thought brought me put a smile on my face.

“What are you grinning about?” she finally asked.

“You wanna have my pups?”

She groaned. “I was being facetious.”

I shrugged. “But you do want pups someday?”

“Of course I do. Don’t you?”

She seemed nervous waiting for my answer.

“Very much, but only with my true mate.”

Her.I only wanted pups with her.

She gulped and nodded.

This was all still new for the both of us but there was no point in lying to her about things. I had waited for her. I mean, not to the point I had never been on a date or with a woman before, but rarely, and after seeing Wyatt and then Thomas fall to their true mates, I knew I didn’t want to settle for anyone less. No one less than Winnie.

I reached over and took her hand in mine. That simple gesture brought me immense pleasure.

A text popped in as I was pulling up to the house. I glanced down to see it was confirmation from the transport company that my girls had arrived.

“I need to run into the office for a bit and make sure everything’s settled with this delivery. Would you want to come along?”

“I can go to work with you?” she asked skeptically.

“Sure, anytime you want.”

“Is your boss okay with that?”

I shrugged. “I’m sort of a co-boss around there. You’ll see. Ruby won’t mind.”

“Ruby?”

“My other work-half.”

“Oh, um, okay. Let me change first, I guess.”

“Okay. Take as long as you need. I’m not even supposed to be home yet so no one’s expecting me, but I’ll feel better getting things sorted.”

“So you’re a workaholic?”

“Something like that.”

She groaned in disapproval. “Great. Long hours in the office and all of that?”

“Up early, home by six each night, bed by eight I’m afraid.”
