She looked up at my approach and smiled.
“Glamorous work, huh?”
“Well, you certainly look beautiful doing it.”
She beamed.
“I wasn’t sure I’d see you today.”
“Well, since you’ll be gone this evening, I thought I’d bring lunch by.”
“Mmm. I’m starving. Thanks. Just give me a few minutes.”
She finished up her work and then went to wash up.
When she returned, I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her.
She was blushing furiously when I pulled back.
“Are you sure you’re okay with me going tonight? Because I can back out. I think they’d understand.”
“It’s fine, Winnie. I brought subs. Wanna eat?”
I was purposefully changing the subject and trying to lighten the mood because I didn’t want her to know just how edgy my wolf was thinking about how she’d be gone for the evening.
Taking my hand, she led me out of the barn and over to a nearby picnic table.
“What did you bring me?”
I pulled out four sandwiches.
“Take your pick.”
“Did you get a little carried away?”
“I wasn’t sure what you liked so I grabbed a variety of options.”
“What if I want more than one?”
“Then take two, or all of them. I don’t care.”
I loved the feeling of caring for my mate. If she needed them all, then so be it. I’d just stop and pick something else up on my way back after her lunch break.
We ate in a peaceful silence. In truth, I just enjoyed being close to her. It calmed my wolf and made me happy whether we were talking, messing around, or just sitting in silence eating a sub.
I hadn’t been stopping by for lunch each day.
“Babe, what do you do normally over your lunch break? Just hang out here?”
“Um, no. I’ve been working with the horse.”
“The wild one?”
She nodded.
I despised thinking of her with that beast and wanted nothing more than to protect her, but I pushed that aside honestly tried to be supportive.
“How’s that going?”
