His lips were on mine before I could respond. I smiled against his as I kissed him back.

“Can we just get these people out of our house and maybe have a sober redo of last night?”

“You mean it?”

“Yeah, sweetheart. I don’t ever want you to doubt my need or love for you again.”

I wrapped my arms around his neck and squealed with happiness.

Suddenly Clay stiffened.

“What is it?” I asked.

I was pretty confident he wasn’t having second thoughts already. This was something different.

“Someone’s here.”

“Well, yeah, everyone’s here. How could you have missed them?”

“No, not them.”

“Winnie?” a voice called out. “Winnie? Are you here?” my mother’s voice rang out.

“Mom?”

I stepped away from Clay and then ran into the next room.

I heard Clay curse under his breath and then some banging around before he followed, pulling a shirt over his head in the process.

Mom and Dad stood there staring at me with open curiosity.

“Mom? Dad?”

I ran to hug them both at once.

“What are you doing here?”

“You called us upset,” Dad reminded me.

“And then you wouldn’t answer your phone,” Mom continued.

“We got worried,”

“So, when we got to the fairground and unloaded, I used the GPS search on your phone,”

“And we found you,”

“Do they always finish each other’s sentences?” Clay whispered to me.

“Not always. You’ll get used to it after a while though.”

“So, who is this?” Mom asked and I blushed.

“Um, Mom, Dad, this is Clay, my mate.”

“Your mate, huh? The one that made you cry?” Dad asked as Mom nudged him to shut up.

I smiled up at Clay reassuringly.
