Now, I was scared and pathetic. I was broken beyond repair, and I couldn’t bring him down with me. I already worried enough about the effects it would have on Vada.

He looked down and noticed the bags.

“Are you leaving?” he asked.

“I don’t know,” I told him honestly.

He sighed. “Don’t blame you.”

“What?”

“I tried to leave too. I’m sorry. I didn’t exactly handle things well earlier.”

There was no point in denying it, he was obviously going to address the whole mating thing.

“You handled things great with my daughter today. That means a lot to me.”

“I tried to leave too,” he confessed.

“What? Why?”

He shrugged. “Made assumptions I probably shouldn’t have.”

I nodded understanding. “You figured I was mated already.”

“I did. I begged Kyle to allow me to leave.”

“Why would you need his permission?”

“Westin Pack is the largest pack in the world. If I left without his approval, no other Pack would take me in. We aren’t designed to be lone wolves, Lucy.”

Hearing my name roll off his tongue caused a shiver to run down my spine. I could feel myself growing wet again. This was a terrible reaction when I was trying to be bold and face things like an adult. It certainly was not helping the situation any.

He sniffed the air, and a slight smile tipped the corners of his lips.

Oh no. He can smell my arousal.I was so embarrassed.

“So, as you can imagine, I really needed his permission,” he said as if nothing had just happened.

“And did he give it to you?” I asked because I had no idea what else to say.

“No.” He frowned.

“No?”

“No. But you do understand I am the Pack physician here, right? The only Pack physician?”

“Yes.” I didn’t know where he was going with all of this.

“As such, I’m privy to things other people aren’t. It’s all doctor-patient privilege stuff.”

I could feel the color draining from my face. Kyle told him. I knew it before he could even say anything further.

“Lucy.”

“Don’t. He shouldn’t have told you.”

“He only told me what I needed to hear.”
