I just groaned in response.

“Is she fighting it?” Tarron asked, sounding concerned.

“No. It’s not that. We just haven’t found the time.”

“Again, sorry about that, man,” Ben added.

“That wasn’t your fault.”

“Kind of was. That was my candy stash the kids got into.”

“What the hell? You aren’t supposed to be eating a bunch of sugary crap like that,” Painter reminded him.

Ben just rolled his eyes making me laugh.

“Well, I heard a rumor this morning that Lucy healed your grandmother. Is that true?” Silas asked.

“Tabitha is healed?” Grant asked. “How is that even possible?”

I smiled. “She is. She’s alert and well. In fact, she’s moving out of the nursing home today.”

“A complete healing from years of head trauma?” he questioned.

I nodded. “Yeah. She described it as being trapped in her own body. Her mind is as sharp as ever. Dad and Grandpappy are keeping a close eye on her, but she’s going to be okay.”

“That’s really amazing, man.”

“Thanks.”

“And Kelsey couldn’t have done this?” Silas questioned.

I shrugged. “To be honest, none of us really considered using their healing powers in this way. I guess we all just assumed with brain damage that it couldn’t happen, or maybe we just considered it too far gone for a healing. I don’t know. This certainly could open new doors for us now. I haven’t really stopped to consider it yet.”

I knew I had a few other patients suffering similarly, but I didn’t want everyone to get their hopes up that Lucy was suddenly a miracle worker. We both knew that Vada had played a significant role in healing Nanny, and there was no way in hell I was I going to exploit her for that. I didn’t have to talk to Lucy about it to know that we were both on the same page when it came to that. Vada should be allowed as normal a childhood as possible. What she chose to do with her powers as an adult would be up to her. Until then, I would do whatever I could to shield her from the world of curiosity who would use her for her gifts.

“Well, I’m happy for you and your family. Tabitha was a remarkable woman and it killed me to see her like that,” Grant admitted.

“I know man. We all felt the same. It’s pretty surreal right now. I was right there to witness it and I can still hardly believe it.”

Jake ran into the gym taking the heat off of me.

Silas scowled. “Where the hell have you been?”

He sighed, looking a little defeated. “Sorry. Family crisis this morning.”

Silas just glared at him raising one eyebrow higher than the other and causing Jake to crack under the silent scrutiny.

“Charlie hitched a ride in my bag this morning. I swear I didn’t know she was there.”

“What do you mean hitched a ride?” Silas demanded.

“Exactly as it sounds. She’s such a small little mouse. I didn’t even see her, but she hid in my bag and then escaped in headquarters while we were out on our run. Apparently, she was going through some of Martin’s files in the data center when Archie busted her. It led to a full-on chase and let’s just say he is not happy about it.”

“Why didn’t we get called in?” he grumbled.

“Because Delta did. Michael and his team is not happy about it. Rumor has it Linc went off on her when he finally caught her, and she bit him.” Jake groaned.

“Linc went off on someone? I didn’t even know he had it in him,” Baine teased.
