“Good news?” I ask. Acting as if I wasn’t teasing her at all just now.
She nods. “She got into the advanced nursing program. She’ll be an RN in three years instead of four. I told her we have to go celebrate tomorrow. You know how hard she worked to get her GED and take the night classes for the courses she needed before she could apply.”
I nod. “I do. I’m very proud of her as well. Do you think she’ll bring Lex with her?”
She shakes her head as she turns around in my arms and holds me. “You know, we could be wrong about him being the one that moved in with her. He’s been giving her the cold shoulder lately. I don’t think he wants her like you think he does.”
A smile pulls at my lips. She hasn’t heard his drunken rants when he drags me off for a drink because he’s struggling not to pounce the girl who throws herself at him every chance she gets. She’s nearly twenty-one, but he’s still struggling with how much younger than him she is. Despite him feeling like he has a connection with her.
To be honest, I’m not sure if they’re roommates either. I know he wanted to move in with her due to some harassment she’s been getting, but I don’t know what their arrangement is. He hasn’t confirmed anything with me.
I squeeze handfuls of her pert ass. “Perhaps I’ll invite him to the dinner celebration. Not give them a choice and make it a double date of sorts.”
She stares up at me with a raised brow. “Now who’s being the naughty one? You’re going to give poor Lex blue balls. We’re going to STK, Mary is going to dress up to the nines. The man won’t know what to do with himself. He already doesn’t when she’s in scrubs around him. Can you imagine something sexy?”
I smile at her. “I would venture to say, it’s much like the reaction I’ll be having all night seeing you in a glamorous outfit as well. I’ll be fighting to not finger you under the table.”
She smirks. “I guess turnabout is fair play then, huh? I have to go get ready for work.” Letting go, I watch as she heads for our bedroom. Her ass sways from side to side. She stops at the door and glances over her shoulder. “I love you.” There may be a twenty-one-year difference between us, but Carissa Adler is my equal in every way. She doesn’t know it, but I’ll be asking her to marry me soon. I’m waiting for it to get closer to Christmas. “I love you, too.”
Who would’ve ever thought that a casino of all places, could introduce me to the love of my life, or that she would be the daughter of my best friend? It just goes to show that at any point in time, your life can change for the better and to never turn your nose up at a chance at love, even when it seems like it shouldn’t be.
If we had stopped our relationship when we found out the truth, I firmly believe we would’ve been miserable. Our souls said that we were meant to be together, and I’m so glad we listened.
