“She opened it about a year ago. I guess you haven’t been around town much since you’ve gotten back.”

“Not really. I haven’t even gotten an apartment yet.” Chase shook his head.

“Well, the other guys are probably going to hate you for pulling this assignment. The woman is a wonderful baker. Everything we’ve tried has been freaking amazing. Faith loves her macarons. I think half the people in town signed up for gym memberships after she opened.”

“I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. I think I’ll be okay.”

“I bet you’ll change your tune after you try anything she has in that bakery. Even so, she’s the assignment and Aurora Prince is a sweetheart. Just remember that. The woman couldn’t hurt a fly if she tried and has been through a ton of shit. So be nice to her.”

“I said I would.”

“Yes, sir.”

“I mean it. Don’t fuck this up.”

“Understood. Thank you for giving me another chance.”

“You’re welcome, Jasper. Keep your cool and you’ll be fine. Since the job is in town you have plenty of back up if you need it.”

“I will.”

But it’d been a long time since someone worried about his well-being. Now he had to prove that he deserved it.
