“Not like that. Shit. You guys suck sometimes. I didn’t hit on her. The woman looked terrified when she saw me behind her outside.”

“She didn’t look familiar to me, but I was distracted by the hair. Do you think she’s in trouble?” Ryan asked.

“I don’t know. But I can’t force her to take my help. There was just something about her eyes though, I’ve never seen eyes so green, like emeralds. But they were filled with fear. Ugh…” Murph’s voice trailed off and sighed again. Damn, he was doing a lot of that lately. Changing the subject, he asked, “Where’s Jake?”

“He’s coming, said he had to make a call and he’d catch up with us,” Rafe replied.

“That’s been happening a lot lately. Think he’s okay?” Cam asked absentmindedly rubbed Halo’s head as it rested on his thigh.

Maybe he needed to get a dog. Except he’d have to worry about boarding it when they left on missions and he’d hate doing that to an animal. As he listened to his teammates talk about their women, Murph wondered about Ms. Sky Blue Pink. Ryan was right, her hair color was dead on.

“What, no women tonight?” Jake asked as he sat in the last empty chair.

He looked about as tired as Murph felt, and he wondered why they hadn’t brought them, it had become the norm.

“We felt sorry for you guys, so we left them home for a girls night at my house,” Rafe replied.

“Bullshit, you probably wore them out with all of your squatting in the cucumber patch. I bet they couldn’t even stand up.”

“Jesus, Murph, where the fuck do you come up with this stuff?” Ryan said after choking on his swallow of beer.

“You didn’t have to leave them home on our account,” Jake said. “I invited Quinn and his team to join us, but they took a rain check. Probably a good thing, we’d have had to knock some heads together to get more chairs. Is there something going on tonight I don’t know about?”

“We were wondering the same thing,” Cam said.

“Hey, guys sorry I’ve been neglecting you. It’s a little crazy in here tonight,” Pam said as she placed a large bowl of pretzels on their table.

“We were just talking about that. What’s going on?” Cam asked.

“A birthday party, at least that’s what they told me,” Pam replied with a wink and a smile. “You never know with you Navy guys. I’ll get these pitchers refilled. Can I get you anything else?”

“How about a couple of orders of chicken wings?” Jake said.

“Extra hot like usual?”

“And some nachos too,” Cam chimed in.

Pam laughed. “Sure, anything else?”

“Hey, Pam. Did that girl find you?” Murph asked, carefully watching her reaction. Maybe the Sky Blue Pink had lied to him and she was up to no good.

“What girl?”

“When I got here, there was a girl with pink and blue hair carrying a couple of bags standing in front of the bar. When I asked if she needed help, she said she was looking for you.”

“Oh, yeah, she found me. Her name is Sky. She’s the daughter of my best friend from high school.”

Pam was blinking too much and not making eye contact. A clear sign she wasn’t telling the truth or at least not all of it. Murph couldn’t shake the feeling there was something wrong.

“That’s cool. Is she staying with you?”

“Yes, until she can find a place.”

“That explains the bags, then,” Murph remarked.

“Is there something you want to ask me, Murph? I feel like I’m getting the third degree.”

Rafe kneed him under the table. Shit, he had been kind of grilling her.
