“The kiss. Your kiss.” He smiled as her cheeks turned bright pink. No matter how many times he saw it, he’d never get tired of seeing her blush. “You can do that anytime you want.”

“Oh yeah? Anytime?”

“Okay, within reason.”

That made them both laugh. Murph was about to suggest they take a walk around the lake when his phone rang.

“Captain Knox, sir?” Since he’d spoken to him less than an hour ago, he was surprised to get another call. When Sky heard the captain’s name, she gave him a questioning look, but he had no idea what was up.

“Murph, you need to report back to base now. Bring Ms. Turner.”

“Yes, sir. Can I ask why?”

“We’ll discuss it when you get here.”

“Copy that, sir.”

Sky started to ask him a question, but he held up a finger as he waited for his call to Tex to connect.

“I wondered how soon you’d call.”

“The captain told me to come in with Sky. Do you know anything?”

“Yeah, you were right. Walker is connected but not the way we thought. He’s on the FBI’s payroll.”

“What the fuck?”

“Exactly. I’m guessing they paid a visit to Captain Knox.”

“I agree. I’ll give you a call later.”

“Looking forward to it.”

“What is going on?”

“We’re going to Little Creek to talk to the captain and the FBI.”

“The FBI? Why are they involved?” As soon as she asked the question, it must have clicked because her eyes opened really wide. “Kurt is an FBI agent?”

“No, but he’s probably an informant.”

“So they’re helping him hurt women? How can they do that?”

“I don’t know. They probably have some greater good mission that they think makes it all worthwhile.”

“This is never going to end,” Jen said as she stormed inside.

“Yes it will,” Murph said even though she wasn’t there to hear it. He’d see what they had to say but there was no way that scumbag was going to ever touch a hair on her head again.

Chapter 14

Following Sky inside, he packed his clothes and then grabbed anything perishable. The rest he’d leave there. Once they got the Walker issue resolved, he hoped he’d be able to bring Sky back for a little getaway. He didn’t give a fuck what the FBI said either, the dirtbag needed to be taken care of once and for all. Murph had no doubt that the reason they couldn’t find any of his exes was because none of them were alive. He’d probably keep them until he wanted someone new, then he’d kill them and dispose of their bodies.

Thinking about it made his blood run cold. If they were right, Sky could have ended up in a landfill somewhere and no one would have known. He was praying that he’d come down here and try to lay a finger on Sky, all he needed was a good excuse.

Murph loaded up the truck and then went back for Sky. Her bag was packed, and she was just sitting on the edge of the bed.

“Are you okay, Sky?”
