“Bullshit, the bigger they are the harder they fall. And you, my friend, are toast. You didn’t want her to catch a cold? Please, when has Drew Murphy ever been concerned about a woman before?”

“You’re so full of shit.”

“No, I’m not. You might not want to admit it yet, but it’s a done deal. Although it won’t be an easy road for her after what she’s been through.”

“Miranda recovered…” Murph mused without realizing the implication of his words.

“Yes, she did but we took it slow and what she went through was a lot different than what Sky had to deal with,” Cam acknowledged.

“I know, and I know it’s too soon to expect anything. But I enjoy spending time with her, making her laugh, if that’s all it ever amounts to, then that’s okay too.”

“Tell me again you haven’t fallen for this woman,” Cam said with a smile.

“Shut the fuck up. And you’d better keep this to yourself.”

“Are you kidding? I always find out everything last. I can’t wait to spread this news.”

“Nothing has happened yet.”

“I know, but I see how she looks at you.”

Cam was probably blowing smoke up his ass, but what he wouldn’t give for even one kiss.

“Whatever. I want to check on her then I’ll check in with Tex.”

“Halo and I will be on duty tonight. I have coffee in the truck. You’ll know if any shit hits the fan.”

Murph looked down at Halo, lying by Cam’s feet. If there was trouble, Halo would make enough noise to wake the dead.

“See you in the morning.”

“Night,” Cam replied.

By the time Murph got inside, Sky was sound asleep. Closing her door most of the way so he wouldn’t disturb her, he went into the other room and called Tex.

“Hey, Murph. Looks like it’s all quiet.”

“Yeah, for now. I guess that answers my question about the video feeds.”

Tex chuckled. “When will you guys learn that I’m always about fifteen steps ahead of you.”

“Probably never.” Murph looked up at one of the cameras and flipped Tex the bird.

“That’s weak, man.”

“Nah, I just don’t want to wake Sky. She’s wiped out.”

“She’s been through all kinds of hell. Speaking of that, I might have found something. Since he’s a big deal attorney I figured he had to go to charity events. I’ve been combing through social media looking for pictures of him and I came across a few of him with a woman from about three years ago.”

“Fuck yeah. That’s huge, way to bury the lead.”

“Not so fast. I’m still trying to identify her. She could be anyone, just someone who was there for the event. Until I can get a name to go with the face, we don’t really know anything.”

“Got it.” He was sure Tex heard his disappointment.

“We’ll get him. I’m not giving up.”

“I know, I’m just fucking frustrated. I want this to be over for her.” He wanted it to be over for both of them. She needed to heal, and he was determined to help her. Because no matter what, she wasn’t going to get rid of him. He intended to be part of her life however she’d let him.
