As he’d promised, he didn’t push for more. Having her cuddled against him every night was blessed torture. Even the sight of her in her heart-covered thermals didn’t dampen his desire. He’d spend the night staring at the ceiling, reciting the SEALs creed trying to ignore his erection. But he wouldn’t have given up a second of it for anything. Cam had been right. He was cow jumped over the moon crazy for her.
As each day passed and nothing happened she relaxed a little more and they fell into a routine. Murph was always the first one up, so he could jack off in the shower. He’d thought he had morning wood in high school, but that was nothing compared to the throbbing dick he had from sleeping next to Sky.
They’d eat breakfast then go for a hike. Then Murph would check in with his captain and Tex a few times a day. Walker hadn’t left the city and Murph’s week was running out. He wasn’t sure how much more work he could miss.
After talking to the captain earlier he’d found out that he had to report back to work in two days. But with Walker still a threat he didn’t know what he was going to do. He couldn’t leave Sky without protection.
“Okay, what’s wrong?” Jen asked seeing him pacing back and forth in front of the cabin. “Did something happen?”
“Yes, but not what you think.” He needed to stop her mind from going to the worst-case scenario. “Walker is still in New York. It’s okay,” he said as he reached for her hand. Looking down at her fingers intertwined with his, he smiled. They really had come a long way in four days, and he didn’t want anything to ruin it.
“Then what is it?”
“I have to report back to work in two days.”
“So I go back to my mom’s and stay cooped up again?”
“No, we’ll have to figure out something else. Or somehow make Walker show his hand.”
“He’s ignored every trap you set for him, it’s like he has inside information.”
“Yes, it is. Actually, that’s an interesting thought.” Murph had a bad feeling that Sky was right and pulled out his phone and called Tex and put him on speaker.
“Did something happen?”
“You’re on speaker so Sky can hear you too. And no, nothing except that I have to go back to work in two days.”
“I guess we need a new plan, huh?”
“Yeah, and I might have one. We were talking, and she said something that made me think. What if there’s something bigger going on here? What if Walker is connected somehow? Getting inside information?”
“It would explain a lot, wouldn’t it?
“Sure would.”
“Let me flip some rocks and see what crawls out. Later.”
“Do you think he’ll find anything?”
“I hope so. But even if he doesn’t we’ll figure it out. I know I keep saying that, but I am not going to let him get his hands on you. He’d have to kill me first.”
“I want to believe you. I do. But how long am I supposed to live in limbo waiting to see if he’ll come for me?” Tears gathered in her eyes and it broke his heart.
Opening his arms, she walked into them and he held her close. She was right, she’d been through enough already. He prayed that he was right and Tex would find something.
“I’m so sorry, my sky blue.”
Sniffling, she raised her tear-stained face to his. “What did you call me?”
“Sky blue. That first evening when I saw you Ryan thought your hair looked like the popsicle he’d get when he was a kid. It was sky blue pink. That’s how I think of you, probably why I keep calling you Sky instead of Jen.”
“I don’t mind if you call me Sky. I think I’d like to call you Drew instead of Murph. I think it’s time.” Before he could say a word, she pulled his face down and went up on her tiptoes. After a heartbeat’s hesitation, she brushed her lips across his.
He couldn’t have held back his groan if his life depended on it. He’d imagined the kiss, her taste, how she’d feel. He wanted to pull her closer and part her lips with this tongue and get his first taste but when she pulled back he released her. She already meant too much to him to risk losing her for a kiss. There would be time for that later.
“Thank you.”
“For?
