“Hey, buddy. How are you feeling today?” Rafe asked.

“Good. Thanks for coming to rescue me last night.”

“You’re welcome. Let’s not make it a habit, okay?”

“No way. I’m never doing that again. You don’t have to worry.” Chase had a fierce expression on his little face.

“Good. So, Jake sent me up to get you since breakfast is on the table. Do you need help with the stairs?”

Chase shook his head. “I got it. Mom said she’d help, too.”

“Okay, then. I’ll see you downstairs.” Rafe winked at Dawn and then disappeared through the doorway.

“Ready?” Dawn stood up and held out her arm for Chase to lean on.

“Oh yeah, I think I smell bacon.”
