If only it had been that easy. But how would Chase get to Virginia on his own? “Rafe, my brother, is a Navy SEAL stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. I don’t see any way Chase could get there on his own.”
“I’ll have a patrol check the Greyhound terminal just in case.” Spencer spoke into his radio and asked dispatch to send a car to check out the bus station. “If it’s okay with you, I’m going to go check your son’s room.”
It wasn’t really a question, more like a challenge. Obviously, she hadn’t passed the test yet and was still a suspect. “Not at all, go ahead. Do you want me to show you where it is?”
“I think I can find my way. Do you have a friend you can call, someone to stay with you?” Spencer asked as he stood and tucked his notebook into this shirt pocket.
Dawn stood too and followed him to the foot of the stairs. “No, not really. But Rafe is coming. He should be here in a few hours.”
“We’ll want to talk to him if we haven’t found your son yet.”
“I’m sure that won’t be a problem.” Dawn shrugged her shoulders. Rafe wouldn’t do anything to put Chase in danger. Besides, he only returned from a mission yesterday.
“I’ll have a few more questions after I check Chase’s room.”
“Okay, I’ll be right here.”
Spencer nodded and then headed upstairs, each footfall echoing in her head.
