“The surveillance cameras recorded you kissing your boyfriend in front of the bank,” Wendy said smugly.
“For that quick kiss?” Harmony exclaimed. Maybe a week ago she would have considered tit a kiss, but after spending the last few days in Ry’s arms, making out on the sofa, there was no way it could be anything close to fraternization. She figure out why her boss would do this.
“Read your employment contract if you don’t believe me,” Wendy answered.
It was clear, that Wendy was enjoying herself, and Harmony still had no clue what she’d done to deserve her disdain.
Harmony wanted to rail at the woman, but she needed the job. Focusing on remaining calm, she said through gritted teeth, “I apologize, and it won’t happen again.”
“I hope not, Harmony. I’d hate to see you lose this job. Maybe you should make sure the big guy stays away from the bank, just in case.”
Harmony nodded. “Is that all? Or is there something else you want to discuss?”
“Have you heard from that police detective? Are there any updates? We don’t want any trouble here. The customers are our top priority,” Wendy said.
“No, nothing yet. He said he’d call if there were any updates.”
“Let me know if you hear anything,” Wendy said and then picked up the phone.
Harmony couldn’t get out of her office fast enough.
What a witch. But something bugged Harmony about the entire conversation. Why was Ry coming around an issue? If she said they couldn’t kiss on bank property, he’d respect her wishes.
She was still contemplating Wendy’s words when her cell phone rang.
“Harmony Taylor.”
“It’s me, sweetheart. Your chariot awaits, and so does your faithful steed,” Ry said.
“My steed? I guess if I was a little shorter, I could ride Whiskey.”
“Who said anything about Whiskey? I’m hoping you’ll ride me,” Ry replied and growled into the phone.
Gawd. Instant wet panties. She needed to do laundry or go by her apartment and pick up some more clothes, especially underwear. It was getting out of hand.
“You’re horrible. I’ll be right out,” Harmony replied, her cheeks heating with embarrassment.
“We’ll be waiting.”
Harmony heard his chuckle as he disconnected. Darn. She’d fallen hard and way too fast. Hopefully, she could handle the heartbreak when it was over.
Checking her files, she finally found the employee handbook and her signed contract and tucked them in her purse. She checked her office and made sure she’d locked everything so Wendy wouldn’t have an excuse to fire her. Then she walked out of her office and waved goodbye to Richard, the security guard, as he held the door open for her to leave.
As she stepped outside into the cool air, she inhaled deeply, ridding herself of her anger so it didn’t taint her evening with Ry. They’d spent a wonderful four nights together, even if they hadn’t made love yet, but when the police caught Harry, her fairytale would be over.
“Hello, beautiful,” he called to her as she approached the truck, and Whiskey barked his greeting as he paced back and forth, waiting for her.
Ry got out to open her door and leaned down to kiss her. When Harmony put up her hand to stop him, his expression clouded with worry.
“I’ll explain in a minute,” she said, seeing his hurt expression.
He nodded and closed the door when she buckled in.
As he pulled out of the parking lot, she saw him glance over at her as she received her requisite Whiskey licks.
“Did something happen today? Are you upset with me about the riding comment?” Ry asked.
“I’m not mad at you, not even a little. You are amazing and I’ve never been as happy as I am with you.” She’d almost slipped and said the “L” word, but if he didn’t feel the same, she didn’t think she could handle it. Instead, she swallowed before continuing, “But yes, something happened at work today. I’m still trying to understand it all. Something doesn’t feel right, and I have a bad feeling about it.”
