Harmony hesitated for about a half-second, then handed him the shoes. Maybe she could get through the rest of the evening without hurting herself or anyone else. If she played it safe. “Thank you. I appreciate it.”

Their fingers touched as he took the shoes, and electricity zinged up her arm. Her gaze darted to his and from his expression, he must have felt it, too.

“No problem. Whiskey, stay with Harmony.” At Ry’s words, the dog sat and leaned his body against her. He probably expected her to fall over again. Though that was less likely without her shoes, it couldn’t be ruled out completely.

Harmony rubbed the dog behind the ears as she watched Ry head over to his table. He’d turned her insides into mush and all he’d done was brush her hand as he took the shoes. If he ever kissed her, she’d probably spontaneously combust. Not that it would ever happen. Men like him didn’t date women like her.

“He likes you.” Chrissy grinned and elbowed Harmony in the side.

“He’s just being nice.”

“Yes, he’s nice, but that’s not what it is. I’ve known him for a while now. He’s showing all the signs that he’s interested.”

“What? You’re crazy. No way.” Just thinking that Ry could be even a little interested sent heat flooding into her cheeks. “He’s just being protective. Probably like the old saying, ‘when you save someone, you’re responsible for them.’”

“Sure, you tell yourself that, girl. He’s going to ask for your phone number.”

“No way. Unless he’s just trying to be nice. But if you want a real bet, then I’ll take it up a notch. He has to ask for my numberandcall me.”

“You got it. What are we going to bet?” Chrissy asked.

“How about dinner? Whoever wins gets to pick the place,” Harmony said.

“It’s a bet. We have to shake on it.”

“What are you two up to?” Ry asked as he returned to Harmony’s side.

Chrissy gave her a knowing wink. And Harmony’s cheeks got even hotter.

“I bet her that she won’t have any more accidents while she’s here,” Chrissy said.

“You’d be correct in that assumption. Me and Whiskey will make sure of it.”

“Oh, no, you don’t have to, Ry. I can take care of myself.” As the words left her mouth, Harmony said a little prayer that she was right.

“We want to, right, boy?”

“Woof.”

Chrissy smirked. “C’mon. Let’s talk to Meghan and Rafe while they’re not surrounded by a ton of people.”

“See, you’re learning.” Large groups intimidated her, especially when she was already uncomfortable in her surroundings.

“Don’t worry, we’ve got your six,” Ry whispered into her ear.

“Thank you. But wouldn’t you rather be hanging out with your friends than babysitting an accident waiting to happen?”

“I’m exactly where I want to be.”

True to his word, Ry stayed by Harmony’s side while she chatted with Meghan and Rafe, and then Chrissy introduced her to the rest of the bridal party. She’d heard all about Miranda, Sky, and Dawn, and how they had girls’ nights when the guys were out on missions. Chrissy had invited her to the last few, but Harmony had declined, saying she was busy with work and getting settled in her new place.

When the DJ announced it was time to throw the bouquet, Chrissy convinced her to join the group of single women. Harmony held her breath as the bouquet sailed through the air and straight toward her. The other women jostled for position, but she didn’t move from her spot. So the last thing she expected was for the flowers to drop right into her hands. But even better, she didn’t knock anyone else out and stayed upright through everything.

“Holy crap. I can’t believe I caught it.”

“Things are about to get interesting,” Chrissy murmured.

“What do you mean?” Harmony tried to read Chrissy’s expression. It was the first time Ry had left her side to give them a chance to talk.
