“Ask her. I’m sure she’ll tell you,” Ry said. He opened the door to let Harmony back in.

“All ready, Harry?” Harmony asked.

“Don’t I need to sign some things, pay a bill or two, something?” Harry asked.

“I think the police department covered it for taking down a dangerous criminal, or maybe it was the bank. I don’t remember. It’s taken care of. That’s all that matters,” Harmony said.

Ry wondered how long it would take for Harry to put two and two together and come up with Harmony.

“I suppose so. Can’t blame me for wondering. I haven’t had the best of luck lately.”

Hearing Harry’s comment as he brought in the wheelchair from the hallway, Ry chuckled. “I think your luck might be changing.”

They finally got Harry out of the hospital and into his truck. He chattered the entire drive about the nurses and how different life was without Barb. Then he grew quiet, and his eyes opened wide as they pulled into the driveway of the house he and Barb had lived in. Ry kept calling it the house that started it all, but Harmony thought he was just too silly.

“Why are we here?” Harry asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

“We told you we were driving you home,” Harmony said gently.

“But the bank foreclosed. Didn’t they?”

“Yes, but I bought it for you. This way, you’ll always have Barb with you. I remember how you talked about this place the first time I met you. I couldn’t let you lose it.”

“I can’t accept this, it’s too much—” Harry said as he stared out the windshield at the house he’d called home for the last thirty years.

“Listen, I have way more money than I will ever need. Please let me help you. If it weren’t for my suggestion, you’d never have gotten into trouble.”

“That’s not true. I would have done anything to save my Barb.”

“Yes, and now you’re our family,” Harmony said with a smile. “And families stick together no matter what. I want you to always be a part of my life. C’mon, it’s time to go home.”

“You’re amazing. I can’t thank you enough. Barb would be so thankful, too. I’m sure she’s looking down on you and smiling.”

Harmony hugged Harry before Ry helped him out of the truck. “I’m sure she’s smiling down on all of us.”

Ry wrapped his arms around Harmony’s waist and lifted her out of the truck, hugging her closely before setting her down. “Sweetheart, you’re one of the kindest, most loving people I’ve ever met. Wonderful from the top of your blonde head to the bottom of your cute little feet. Never forget that.”

Harmony shook her head. “I’m just a normal person. You’re the amazing one.”

He’d planned on waiting until they were alone, for the perfect moment. As Ry gazed into Harmony’s face, he knew in his heart that this was that moment.

“But I can’t sing and I’m a total klutz—”

“None of that matters,” Ry said. He put his hand over her heart. “This right here is all that matters.” Then he dropped on one knee and pulled out a ring box from his pocket. “I love you, Harmony Taylor. Will you take my name and be my forever?”

As soon as he said the words, he opened the box, and her eyes went wide in surprise. Ry had searched for weeks for the ring. When he’d seen the oval diamond encircled by amethysts the color of her eyes, he knew he’d found it.

Ry had a moment of panic when she didn’t immediately say yes. But a heartbeat later, she kneeled in front of him and laid her hand against his cheek and smiled, her love for him shining in her violet eyes.

“Yes, yes, a thousand times, yes. From the time I was little, I dreamed about a hero coming to my rescue. Then you walked into my life and were the answer to all my dreams. I’d be honored to spend forever with you.”

Overwhelmed with emotion, Ry lifted Harmony into his arms and spun her around as she laughed with glee. Her joy was infectious, and he and Harry joined in. Then he set her down and claimed her with a kiss until he could have her all to himself and show her just how wonderful forever would be.

Epilogue

Three months later…

“Where the fuck is Josh?” Quinn asked as he checked his watch for the second time in the last few minutes.
