A moment later, Providence charged up thestairs with her doctor’s bag. She stopped when she saw John’s body on the floor.

“Good riddance, douchebag,” she said as she stepped over him.

Yup, his woman was bloodthirsty. He loved it.

“Where’s Mary and Aleksandra?” She asked.

“Mary’s in there. I’ll get Aleksandra. She ran into the room at the end of the hall.” Then he turned as Pat reached the top of the stairs. “Hey Pat. You’re on interrogation duty. If you want to take him now, I’ll get the others back where they belong.”

“Sounds good.” Pat shook his head as he stepped around the pool of blood and grabbed the Russian. His smile made the guy catch his breath. When Pat wanted to, he could put the fear of God into anyone. “C’mon asshole. You and I are going to get to know each other real well.”

Tony slowly opened the bedroom door at the end of the hall. He didn’t want to scare the girl any more than she already was. No ten-year-old should have to experience what she’d gone through for months. At least she hadn’t seen Adam eliminate John.

Tears slid down Aleksandra’s face. She was huddled near the top of the bed as far into a corner as she could get. Her legs were pulled up againsther chest with her arms wrapped tightly around them. Tony doubted she could have made herself any smaller if she tried.

“Hi, I’m Tony. We came to help when we got your text. I promise, no one will hurt you.”

Her gaze tracked him as he made his way into the room. Careful not to move too quickly, he knelt on the floor when he reached the end of the bed. “All the bad guys are gone now. You’re safe. The lady doctor is helping your mama. Do you want to see her?”

Aleksandra nodded yes.

Tony reached his hand across the bed and waited to see if she’d take it. When she did, he breathed a sigh of relief. Hopefully, she hadn’t been too traumatized. God only knew what the assholes had done to her. But other than appearing way too thin and dirty, she didn’t look injured.

She crawled to the edge of the bed and got down. When she looked at him, he offered her his hand again.

“I’d like to carry you if that’s okay. I don’t want you to look at anything but me when we walk down the hallway. Can you do that for me?” He was asking a lot of her, but he didn’t want to force her or have her see the bloody body on the floor.

“Okay.” It was the first word she’d spoken since he’d seen her with the dirtbag.

He gave her a big smile when she held up her arms for him. “Do you like to be called Aleksandra or Sandy?”

“Mama calls me Aleksandra.”

“Okay, then that’s what I’ll call you, too. Now, remember what I said. Just look at me until we get to your mama’s room.”

She nodded. Tony held her close as he made his way down the hall. Somehow, he’d managed to keep a smile on his face until they got to Mary’s room.

“Mama.” Aleksandra squirmed until he put her down. She slowly made her way to Mary’s side. Her eyes never leaving her mother’s bruised body.

Those fuckers had done a number on her. Mary had two black eyes he could see, and who knows what other injuries he couldn’t. He’d find out from Providence later.

Providence bent down as the girl stopped next to her mother’s bed. “Hi Aleksandra, I’m Providence. You sent me the message to come help. It’s so nice to meet you.”

“Is my mama going to be okay?” Aleksandra asked.

Mary’s eyes opened when she heard her daughter’s voice.

“Malysha, baby girl. I’m fine. Doctor Providence is going to make me all good. You don’t have to worry.”

“We’re going to take you and your mom to stay with some friends until you’re all better. Okay?” Providence asked.

Aleksandra nodded her head with a smile.

“You saved us. I…thank you.” Mary’s eyes filled with tears as she grasped Providence’s hand, and hugged her daughter against her side.

Tony couldn’t hear how Providence responded, but he agreed with Mary. Providence had saved them all.
