“She might not have known why, but she had every intention of trying to control me. It was within my rights to turn her into a pest.”
“Let’s avoid turning the rest of her coven into cockroaches,” I said. “If they show up here wanting to help, we can use that. Dorian thinks Reyson is with them. Maybe they can get some information out of Dorian.”
“No,” Balthazar said, rubbing his nose on my neck again. “Leave them out of this. They only got involved because they wanted to support a sister witch. They are already scared. Let’s not put them in danger.”
So far, Balthazar had been all about unleashing Reyson on the world to stop this.
I didn’t take him for being sympathetic towards hedge witches at all. Especially with that nasty curse on his cock.
“Didn’t you say you had a twin sister who worked at the Museum of the Profane?” Gabriel said.
“Yeah, Ravyn. Why?”
“People built elaborate graves back then. You wouldn’t entomb a god without pomp, circumstance, and relics there to protect you if he broke out. How do we know Silvaria and Dorian aren’t so sure they can control Reyson because of something they found in his tomb?”
“Silly superstitious nonsense,” Reyson growled.
“No, he’s right. They got you in there and kept you there. I need to call my sister and find out if there’s anything like that in existence.”
“They got me in the tomb because of a woman. She sacrificed herself to get walled up in there with me because they blamed me for something, I had nothing to do with. I could have burst out of there and killed every last one of them, but I left Earth for the aether. They didn’t deserve my presence in their city.”
“I still have to ask, Reyson. Witchcraft has come a long way since then. It might not have existed then, but it might now, and we’ve got demons involved.”
He just let out this little grunt.
“I demand snuggles like the vampire is getting when you get off the phone.”
I cocked an eyebrow at him.
“Excuse me? You demand?”
“Fine. I wouldliketo snuggle with you when you get off the phone. I don’t mind if everyone else joins.”
I rolled over and buried my face in Balthazar’s chest. I was trying not to giggle. There was this delicate line between giving Reyson a hard time and getting turned into a cockroach and I was definitely straddling it; but Balthazar was right. Reyson was trying, and I needed to start too.
“How about you and me alone after dinner?”
Reyson beamed at me and bowed his head.
“Of course, my witch.”
“I’m going to my bedroom to call my sister. This needs to be done without comment from the peanut gallery.”
I went back to my bedroom and shut the door. I flopped on my bed and pulled out my phone. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t called Ravyn during all of this. Resurrecting a god was significant and we talked about everything. I guess there was just so much going on. I couldn’t find the time. I hadn’t even texted. I hit her number on speed dial and nestled into my pillow. She picked up on the second ring. Today was her day off too.
“Bitch, where have you been, and what is his name?” she answered.
“It’s complicated, and there are four of them.”
“Seriously, Ripley? When are you going to learn? You’ll be so much happier when you swear off men all together like I do.”
Yeah, my sister and I had the exact same luck with men, just different tastes.
“It’s different this time. It involves the cosmos.”
“You’re a witch, not a shifter. You don’t get a fated mate. Are you hitting the Venom? You know how bad that drug is. You—”
My sister got diarrhea of the mouth over literally everything. Sometimes, you just had to be rude and interrupt.
