Chapter 14

Rajack

I

couldn’t believe what I was seeing. If it weren’t for those fucking cameras, I’d be hugging every single person in this room. Ineverthought I’d be present when a Kitsune earned another tail. I’d never seen Rei go full fox before, and she was magnificent. She was pure white, and her eyes were still violet. And those two tails!

She half shifted back like we had seen before. She still had all her clothes on, and the ears and tails were just too precious. She spun around, trying to check her butt for the extra tail. I only knew what I read about Kitsunes getting extra tailed. Rei seemed just as surprised as we were. Wren shoved Dakarys out of the way and gaped. I guess that cat was out of the bag.

“That’s pretty fucking cool, Rei,” Wren said. “I had you pegged for a demon, but I’ve got no idea what kind.”

“Kitsune. Show some respect, Wren. We just saw her earn a new tail. That’s pretty major,” I said.

“I don’t give a shit about her tails, even if she’s fucking adorable like that. We need to be utilizing the fact that she has her magic in here. In case you’ve forgotten, Venus is coming for her next, and then she’s making her move on the mailroom.”

We were all here, and we had little time before the bell rang, and we had to be back for count. It was time to put our cards on the table.

“We won’t be here long. We’ve got a master thief with all her magic. We just need you to pull this off. Want to break out of prison with us, Wren?” Dakarys said.

Wren just crossed her arms and glared at us.

“I’d love to get out of here. I’m a lifer. But I’m also not fucking stupid. Don’t you think Astrid and I tried to figure a way out? It’s not possible.”

I shook my head and just smirked.

“It wasn’t until Brody set the prison on fire and we got here. You know we can get anything, right? We got blueprints of Silverhold. The wing Brody burnt down leads straight outside the gates. It doesn’t have power anymore, so none of the alarms or cameras is working.

“We have Rei here. We’ll start a riot, and she’ll steal Brody’s cuff keys. You know he won’t report them missing right away. That’s the handcuff problem solved. Since yard time has now been canceled, we can start another riot in the mess hall and slip away. That’s where you come in.

“Astrid said there was a corrosive potion possible of eating through metal. We can get you the ingredients. You brew it, and we stroll out of here.”

“Bullshit. If Astrid were busting out of here, I would have known about it.”

Dakarys and I both cleared our throats. We didn’t intend to take any witches with us when we broke out. It was a considerable risk adding another person to our escape plans. Still, we couldn’t leave Wren here now that all the witches had gone bad. We lost Astrid. No one was killing Wren.

“You weren’t taking her,” Wren growled. “What the fuck?”

“We were going to leave her our black-market business and teach her how to run it,” I said.

I realized how lame that sounded now that I said it out loud to Wren. Anyone in here would much rather have their freedom than the power that came with sneaking in butt plugs for the vampires. We were shits. We needed Astrid to pull this off. We could have at least taken her with us. She would have insisted on bringing Wren with us. At least we were making it right now.

“You’re both shits. You know that? Once you went missing, they’d find the melted door. They’d know witches were involved, and someone was sneaking contraband in.No onecould run your little black market once they found out it was used to break out of here. Are you sure you two numb nuts can pull this off?”

We had this planned down to a T. But we hadn’t really thought about what would happen once we were gone. Wren was right. This would blow back hard on the witches, and they’d start looking a lot harder at the contraband they had been finding. Right now, they let it slide, and I was sure they had found a ton of shit during all those cell tosses.

Dakarys and I both exchanged uneasy glances. Weknewthis would work, even if we didn’t think about what would happen to the people we left behind.

“It’ll work, Wren,” Dakarys said. “And you’ll get to fuck over the witches on the way out. They won’t get the black market, and Venus is now the leader. She’ll take the blame.”

“Fuck that! Venus is going to die.”

Rei seemed to have finally gotten over the shock of her extra tail. She put her ears and tails away and joined us.

“Venus is going to die whether or not you are here. It’s going to be all over the news we broke out. The Aether Circle will come for her because she didn’t kill me when she had the chance. Don’t think they don’t know she had Astrid killed and took over the witches. They are probably trying to get someone in here to kill both of us as we speak.”

Wren could be as mean as a rabid dog, but she looked kind of cute when she started sulking about Venus. We all had our reasons for wanting that witch dead. Really, we didn’t even have to wait for the Aether Circle to get someone in here. We could let it slip to the eagles their people were in solitary about to take the fall when all this was Venus’s doing. Several other gangs had people disappear because they found a weapon.

I could be a petty little bitch, and I wasn’t below gossip.
