Dice just grinned.
“And you’ll get it, my tall, thin brother. We’re just asking you to follow along for now. We have a plan. Trust us. We made a vaccine. We killed the Rage Heads. We took out their bullet factory and stole their guns. We can do this.”
Lurch was gangly as fuck as he hopped up on the car with Dice. He held out his hand and clasped forearms with the Horseman of War.
“Then the resistance is with you, my brother! I’ll go with you when you talk to the prison. I was there when all this started. I’m here to keep an eye on things in case the Bubbas show up.”
Dice grinned.
“What were you in for, my good friend?”
Lurch didn’t even crack a smile.
“Postal fraud. But it was just a misunderstanding.”
“Should I, or shouldn’t I shower before I go to the prison with you and Pepper?” Leif asked.
“Is that Bubba blood?”
Leif grinned and nodded.
“Leave it on you. It’ll impress people.”
Pepper glared at the Horsemen.
“The rest of you though, you need to shower. We have children here, and you’re going to scare them. You can borrow my room. Just get that shit off you.”
“Speedy is with me!” Aeron yelled.
“No way!” Dice said, hopping off the car. “You got an entire night with her.”
I knew how to settle this fight. Asher was hitting on me, but he was neutral territory. I didn’t want to be seen as playing favorites. I grabbed Asher’s arm.
“Asher is Sweden, and I’m going with him.”
Asher smirked and wrapped his arm around mine.
“Suck it, assholes!”
Yeah, Asher was totally different when he thought he was winning. We still had to take out my father.
Chapter 22
A
t the rate I was going, I would soon be entirely out of clean clothes. Asher and I showered and were back at the Washington Monument, after a quick detour to check his traps. He was outside skinning animals, and I was inside hiding, waiting for everyone to come back.
Leif came back first, freshly showered. I tackled him onto the mattress as soon as he appeared. I nuzzled his neck and gave him a love bite.
“I could get used to this kind of greeting,” he sighed.
“I get that you have to get the vaccine out, but I fucking miss you.”
Leif squeezed me.
“Speedy, don’t you dare get kidnapped again. Even Asher lost his shit when we realized you weren’t behind us. We didn’t see a vehicle leave with you. Our horses spotted a man on horseback leaving, but you weren’t with him. We were about to go after him when the warehouse you were in started glowing with your grace. Thinking back, we should have had the horses stop him, but we were just so intent on getting to you. We didn’t know if you were alive or dead.”
Iadoredsnuggling with Leif. I could happily have done it all night. Asher was right outside, and I didn’t think Leif was capable of a quickie. I ran my fingers through his soft black hair and bit his shoulder.
