If I was going to be sharing Rei with this wolf, I was glad we had an understanding. He didn’t know me, but he got me. He was trying to reason with Warden Snow, but he was doing it in a way that was giving us a lot more ammunition to destroy her if Rei refused to leave because her friends weren’t coming with her.
Now that I knew why they were in here, I still didn’t understand the logic. The two of them sounded like they should have been given medals, instead of being thrown in jail. Assassins had their uses. It was strange how they punished the assassin instead of the one who hired them.
Warden Snow threw up her hands.
“I regret the day you ever set foot in my prison. Faust, get them out of solitary and bring them to the demons. I want them out of my prison five minutes ago. Ifanythingnegative shows up about Brody, or me, in the press, I’ll find a way to make you regret it.”
Finally. This witch didn’t seem to want to admit defeat. As soon as Rei told us Warden Snow’s nephew tried to kill her before the breakout, this was over. Hell wouldn’t tolerate that, and if we had to destroy the warden, so Rei got her pound of flesh, then we’d do it.
“Demons always keep their word, Warden Snow. Rei got what she needed for closure, and we won’t expose what happened here. Brody is dead, and we won’t come for you in revenge, even though he should have been fired.”
“Get out of my office! I never want to see any of you again! Brody made mistakes, yes, but he never made my life anywhere near as difficult as having the Silver Fox in my prison.”
I could finally bring my fiancé home and get to know her. Kudan wasn’t getting back into Hell now that we had killed the guards he bribed. He’d be tracked down and killed. What I learned about Rei in the Warden’s office, I liked. She was fiercely loyal. She was willing to stay here if her friends weren’t released. I had a feeling Warden Snowneverlost a negotiation, but Rei had backup and destroyed her.
We were so close. We just needed to get all these people safely back to Hell. If Kudan made his move before we got there, I’d get my chance to end him. Finally.
