“There are certain benefits to sharing your mate, and wolves are totally capable of doing so. Resist the urge to kill everyone else, and you’ll see it’s a beautiful thing. I also know you’d like to go barging into Scorchwood to kill everyone who wants to hurt her, but you need to play this smart, or Rei will lose her mate. I can see the bite marks, man. Don’t do that to her.”
We all saw the bite marks. He was showing them off as much as he could. He looked like she gnawed all over him with her little foxy teeth. It looked painful, but I think I spoke for all of us when I said we all wanted to sign up for a bit of biting… I got hard just thinking about it.
Faust just growled and grabbed Rei. I was totally against the idea of Faust being her mate, at least at first. If we got out, I absolutely didn’t want her calling him to join us, but I changed my mind about the wolf.
I saw his face when he caught us breaking out. He was the only one close enough to stop Brody from killing Rei, and he risked his freedom by snapping his neck instead of just knocking him out. He would have helped us walk out of jail and go on the run, if the other guard hadn’t shown up.
I wasn’t wild about the whole serial killer thing, but Faust was clearly devoted to Rei, and had a code about who saw his more murderous side. Even I could admit that he was totally different out of uniform. He was almost a little… funny. I didn’t want him charging off and getting himself killed, even if it meant he was out of the picture. I didn’t want that anymore, and if anyone could get through to him, it would be another wolf and his mate.
Faust’s eyes went back to normal, and so did his canines, as I watched him breathe deeply to control his wolf.
“How do we do this?” he growled.
“You heard about the mess that went down in Scorchwood, right? Not all the details were made public on Earth. Well, now you’re looking at the team that broke out and exposed everything. My mate is half Fae, and technically a Fae princess. Not only did we expose Scorchwood, but we also stopped a Duke from trying to take over Hell, andwe saved the Fae because he was blackmailing them to the point they would have been wiped out unless they helped him. As soon as Solron gets that grimoire, we areexactlywho you want with you.”
“Us too,” Rajack added, touching Faust’s arm. “We care for Rei as well, and Dakarys and I spent a lot of time in Scorchwood. We know our way around, and no one managed to kill us while we were there.”
Amduscias chuckled.
“These two bastards areexactlywho you want at your back too. I was the only demon in Scorchwood, and I could have left at any time, but I stayed for Roman. I had this feeling, deep in my gut, that it wasn’t time to leave yet. Plenty of people tried to come at me with shivs, I killed some, Roman and Skoll took out a few, and these two fuckers took out the rest.”
Rajack puffed up his chest, and I felt my pride swell. We’d defended him when people tried to stab him in the back, because he was one of the good ones. Neither of us had any idea at the time that he was some kind of demon royalty, we didn’t even know what kind of demon he was.
Solron materialized in the shadows then, holding a massive grimoire with a witch with her. This witch looked like she was just as ready to wipe out the Aether Circle as we were. Her gaze fell on Rei.
“My name is Autumn Hart. I’m the High Priestess of the Phoenix Fire coven. We didn’t know who you were when we contacted you to steal the grimoire, but all the stars and tarot readings we did pointed us to your website. It said the only way we could successfully take them down was by starting the process with having you steal their grimoire.”
Wren snorted and slapped Rei on the ass.
“I love it when the stars foretell an evil bitch’s downfall.”
“I just desperately want to get my hands on that grimoire,” Charley said.
Autumn smirked.
“Well, get over here. We’ve been pouring over this thing and have bookmarked a few spells.”
We were seriously doing this… I never wanted to go back to Scorchwood, but if I had to go back, to be truly free of prison and keep Rei safe, I would. Scorchwood had turned me into a killer, but I wouldn’t say I enjoyed it like Wren and Faust did.
Nevertheless, I hoped we weren’t planning on letting the witches have all the fun, because Kudan and the Aether Circle definitely deserved to be torn apart by my sphinx.
