I couldn’t stop smiling. I forgot all about the druid king for a minute. I shouldn’t be having this much fun with his sons. Even Taron was laughing, and Beck and Forrest were flirting pretty hard. I thought I knew every inappropriate joke in the ocean, but there was a whole mess of them on land I hadn’t heard. Of course, Beck knew all of them, and Forrest would get so offended when he would tell me one.
My stomach was hurting from laughing. Especially when Forrest finally realized I wasn’t some delicate creature from the ocean and found that kind of humor funny. That was when I realized Forrest had a bit of a dirty side too. Callum and Forrest gave Beck a hard time for this house and because he liked women, but Forrest knew his share of dirty jokes.
Forrest launched into one about a land-dwelling werewolf with two cocks, and that was when Taron finally stopped laughing. He reached over and put his hand over Forrest’s mouth and let out a little grunt. I just rolled my eyes. Taron probably would have laughed if he let Forrest finish, but sharks took their two cocks seriously. The one he had now was perfectly lovely, and I wasn’t equipped to handle two of them with a tail or with legs. He still lamented a few times last night that he just had the one, and I had to stroke his ego that I still had fun.
Beck fell out laughing.
“That’s one of my favorite jokes. Taron didn’t have a tail, so I still don’t know what he is. At this point, it wouldn’t shock me if he fought off a two cocked werewolf who tried to get handsy with Kishi.”
Taron didn’t want to hear that joke, but he foundthathilarious. Of course, I already knew what he was laughing about. He probably thought it was preposterous that any creature on land was as blessed with cocks as a shark was.
Callum came strolling in with two containers full of blue liquid. He set them on the table and glared at Forrest and Beck.
“The two of you are like teenage druids with the jokes you find funny. Unfortunately, not everyone finds that funny.”
“Kishi does,” Beck said. “Taron did too until we got to werewolves with two cocks.”
“Well, now you can ask him why he found it offensive. And we can ask these two why they are on land. The potion is ready.”
“Our father had something to do with it. You have to know that,” Forrest said.
“Oh, of that, I’m sure,” Callum said. “I also paid attention during our history lessons. The only reason anyone on land agreed to avoid certain parts of the ocean was that the merfolk sunk every ship that sailed there. They are perfectly capable of defending their homes. We saw the shipwreck. The two of you are so excited about meeting a mermaid, you aren’t even thinking about what she’s doing here or if there are more of them. They used to be content to stay in the ocean and sink ships, but they had an agreement with us, and now it’s possibly violated. How do we know this isn’t a declaration of war?”
I needed Callum on my side, and I didn’t like the way it felt that he thought I was here to hurt him. Yeah, I was totally here to murder his father, but I wanted to do it in a way that his sons were safe.
I had no idea what his potion would do to me. If I could take this whole speaking thing back, I would. I was already losing Callum’s trust. I had no choice.
I grabbed his potion off the table and started gulping it down.
