Oscar jumped in front of Dorian, then Bram stepped into the room.
“My brother is mine,” Bram growled.

Icouldn’t astral project like Reyson or find Ripley with her cell phone like Balthazar could. But, I was still her familiar, even if I had my body back. I could still sense her, even if she were far away. She was stressed and uncomfortable. Ripley was still dealing with some of the side effects from the gas, but she knew we were coming.
We had this neat little plan to grab Dorian and Akul, get Ripley to safety, and not harm any Hellhounds there. We were about to leave when it hit me like a punch in the gut. They tied me to Ripley through magic, and I could feel what she was channeling right now. This wasn’t mischief magic. She wasn’t taking the piss and amusing herself at Dorian’s expense with little hexes.
“We need to change the plan. Ripley is using battle magic, which means she’s in trouble. She’s stubborn and can be hot-headed, but not when it counts. She knows we are coming, and she knows she’s outnumbered. So Ripley wouldn’t be fighting unless she was in trouble.”
“Grab onto me,” Reyson snarled. “We’re leaving.”
“New plan,” Lilith announced. “I wanted to do this with as little mess as possible. Get in, get out. We’re going to make a big one. Kaine, I want you to shift and take to the air with Samael and Lucifer. If Akul has friends in that neighborhood, a dragon and two angels should flush them out. Again, please try not to kill the Hellhounds there. Disable them, but don’t kill them.”
I needed to get into the room Ripley was in as quickly as possible, and going in as a cat was out of the question. I looked to Balthazar.
“Can you get me in the same room with her as fast as possible?”
Balthazar gave me a curt nod, and everyone agreed they would be right behind him. Reyson and Lilith would be hunting down Akul and Dorian if they weren’t in the same room so they could grab them before they escaped.
Kaine cracked his neck and gave Lilith a dangerous smile.
“To be clear, you’re giving me permission to unleash the full wrath of my dragon on this estate?”
“Yes. Just try not to set the entire neighborhood on fire. Some of those people might not be involved in this, and the trees in that area are as old as this realm.”
Kaine looked like a toddler who had just been given an entire cake to demolish. He had kind of been this grumpy fuck about the rules when it came to this entire investigation. I knew he wouldn’t have hesitated to throw all our asses in jail if someone caught us breaking one.
I guess it wasn’t surprising he looked giddy about catching the bad guys with no rules in another realm when he bent them all the time working with Balthazar.
Lucifer and Samael came to stand next to Kaine.
“Can we get a little door?” Samael said.
Lilith waved her hand, and a door appeared that seemed to open into the sky. Damn. Witches and warlocks had been trying to figure out how to do that forages.Lilith didn’t give us that ability when she made us. We didn’t have sigils to travel like demons did, either. I could be mad at that later.
Lucifer grabbed Kaine and threw him through the door. He barely fell before this massive dragon burst into the sky, and he beat his wings.
“That’s so badass,” Lucifer said, jumping in after him.
Samael went through, and the door shut.
“Ripley isn’t using battle magic anymore, but the fact that she was in the first place is bad.”
Lilith waved her hand again, and another door appeared leading to a hallway.
“I know cats don’t like being held like babies, even though they are perfectly the size of little babies, so you might want to hop on my back if you want a vampire ride, Felix.”
I let out a little grunt and hopped on Balthazar’s back. Everyone else snuck through as quietly as possible. We didn’t want to tip off the Hellhounds because we didn’t particularly want to fight them.
Fucking Balthazar gave me a little bounce and threw back his head to scream “Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker!” before charging through the door.
If those twelve Hellhounds hadn’t scented intruders yet, they certainly heard that. They’d just better get the fuck out of our way so I could get to Ripley.
