Holy shit. If a god just destroyed my front door because I was breaking the law, that wouldnotbe the first thing out of my mouth. I’d be worried she was about to treat me like that splintered, smoking door.
Balthazar came out of nowhere and tackled me just as magic flew out of the house and landed right where I was standing. Did that bitch just attack me? I wasn’t even the one that wrecked her damned house.
“Oh, fuck no,” Ravyn growled.
My sister flung a killing curse at the window, but we were kind of at a standoff at this point. They were hiding in the house, and we were out here hiding behind Lilith and Reyson.
“Don’t be stupid,” Lilith yelled. “Release your Hellhounds.”
“Fuck no!” a man yelled. “Do you know how much I paid for them? One female is pregnant. I’ve got a buyer lined up for that pup that is going to net me a lot of money.”
That was enough for Reyson. I knew he didn’t have any kids running around out there, but he’d mentioned a few times he always wanted them if he met the right woman. He’d mentioned our little demigod children with this dreamy look on his face like he could see it clearly in his head.
Reyson could be a big, scary Chaos god, but he could also be a big teddy bear. He had a soft spot for babies and pregnant women, and that demon just signed his own death warrant. He’d been restrained so far and not killed anyone in Hell, but he couldn’t be well behaved forever. Reyson was the God of Chaos, and he had his limits. I was pretty sure he was going to have big opinions if Dorian and Akul didn’t meet a gruesome end.
Reyson started stomping towards the house. Lilith didn’t stop him. She followed him. That was when I noticed Bram was missing. Where the fuck was my Hellhound?
Magic was flying in every direction out of that castle. The residents were trying to fling it out of the window and duck in case someone fired back. Felix dragged me behind a car.
“Where’s Bram?” I yelled.
“I don’t know, but he has tattoos that make him immune to some of this shite, and you don’t.”
“Lucifer and Samael must have gone with him because they disappeared too,” Gabriel said.
“Where the fuck did they go? Bram might not be immune to come of those sigils!”
“I can shift and do aerial reconnaissance,” Killian said. “They aren’t going to notice a bat, and I can fly above the magic.”
My twin looked panicked, and I got it. I desperately wanted to know where Bram was, but Talvath did everything he could to make sure Bram could come to as little harm with demon magic as possible. He had two angels with him, and I was guessing Lilith made them demon proof if their creator hadn’t.
I knew Killian was a powerful warlock, or he wouldn’t have been paired up with my sister as her familiar. She’d be devastated if he died. It wasn’t just how I saw her looking at him now that he had a body. Killian had been with her just as long as Felix had been with me. He was her best friend. Killian knew just as much about my sister as I did, and he accepted her.
I wanted to know where Bram was, but I wasn’t risking Killian to do it.
“No. It’s too risky. What’s going on at the house?” I asked, peering over the side of the car.
Balthazar yanked me down just as a stray bit of magic slammed into the side of it and shattered all the windows. Balthazar shielded me with his body like a crazy vampire, but I didn’t want him getting hurt either. When the glass stopped falling, I crawled from underneath him and started checking him for injuries. I got that he had speed healing abilities because he was a vampire, but I waspissedhe was bleeding.
“Reyson better make it hurt because that isnotokay.”
Bram was missing, Balthazar was bleeding, and we were all cowering behind a car because these assholes inside thought they could take on two gods and live. This wasnothow I liked to fight. My battle magic teacher at the academy would be so ashamed if he knew I was hiding from a fight. So I looked to my sister.
“Want to wonder twin some magic at them? This is the second time they’ve almost hit me, and Balthazar is bleeding.”
Ravyn was always ready for a fight. She probably got into more of them growing up than I did. We’d both fight to the death if the other were hurt. But she bit her lip and hesitated.
“You know I’d love to, right? I’m pissed, and no one will let me kill Dorian Gray. Killing those demons in there would take the edge off, but you don’t know where Bram is. He could be inside, and so could the Hellhounds. Reyson and Lilith could survive that castle coming down on them, but no one else could.”
Gabriel and Balthazar hadn’t really seen Ravyn and me in action when we combined our magic, but Felix and Killian were quite familiar with what we could do.
“I know you want to, but hold off. Listen. Lilith and Reyson must be inside because I don’t hear magic out here anymore,” Felix said.
“I’m guessing you two are pretty lethal together,” Gabriel said.
“Oh, you actually have no idea,” Killian said. “If you’re going to date Ripley, you should know she has a twin, and the two of them together can turn you into a pile of man goo if you hurt her.”
“I still think we should have done that to Valentine,” I said.
