“I’m glad I got to be a part of you ending your dick exile.”
“Good. I’m totally wrecked right now, but there are so many things I want to do with that monster.”
“And we will. Go to bed, Ravyn. It’s late, and we’re going to have to figure out how to manage Valentine tomorrow if Key isn’t sending him away.”
There were so many things I’dliketo do with that cheating wolf but babysitting him because he was dumb enough to listen to deranged ghosts was not on my top ten.
Chapter15
Killian
Iwas feeling all kinds of blessed when I woke up. I left a little offering on our altar to Lilith. Maybe I should text her a little thanks. Should I contact Reyson instead? He was the one that randomly started giving familiars their bodies back.
Ravyn and I had our morning routine down, and thankfully, there were no stupid wolves banging on the door this time. I had already packed breakfast up by the time she was out of the shower, and we started walking to the warehouse.
Key and Valentine were already there. They didn’t have keys, but they apparently didn’t feel the need to knock so someone could let them inside. Ravyn scanned her security card on the lock and let us in.
She had already moved the grimoire somewhere it would be safe and texted Sasha it was there to start scanning. Ravyn asked her to keep it on the down-low for now. We still needed to find out what was going on inside Valentine’s head before we told him about the grimoire. He couldn’t use the spells in there, but there were plenty of wicked witches out there who would love to get their hands on it.
I set our breakfast down and started pulling trays out. Valentine grunted and bumped my shoulder. This aggro fucker was about to get laid out on the floor.
“I brought donuts and coffee,” he grunted, setting his boxes down.
Did he pay attention to her at all the last time he was here? Ravyn didn’t eat a lot of sweets, and she always drank tea. On the rare occasion she ate something with sugar, she’d always crash and get sleepy a few hours later. She knew this and rarely did it except for holidays. Ravyn had seen a healer about it. She was totally healthy, but sweets didn’t really agree with her.
It had been like this for ages, even when Valentine was here last time. I was fairly certain she had told him about it too. Key was nothing if not perceptive. He had no way of knowing why I was giving Valentine the stink eye, but he knew something was wrong.
Key opened the box of donuts and pulled one out.
“Ooh, a maple bar,” he said, disappearing with his donut, and I’m pretty sure a coffee Valentine meant for Ravyn.
There were only enough donuts in the box for two people, and he only got coffee for him and Ravyn. Valentine scowled at Key, but he didn’t fight him. Instead, he just stood there sulking until he noticed the box from last night was open.
“You got it open? What was inside?”
I didn’t like the look that was in his eyes as he stared at the open box. We already came up with a plan for this before we left last night. Ravyn smiled sweetly at him, and I just wanted to vomit. I knew she was playing him, but I wantedmyRavyn back, who was plotting her revenge.
“Let’s eat breakfast first, huh? Didn’t you always used to say that you couldn’t function without a nutritious breakfast?”
Valentine’s eyes never left the metal box. Yeah, this shady motherfucker was definitely up to something, but he also knew he wasn’t getting his candy without Ravyn. He’d signed a contract with the museum, and these items were now ours. He could have left now, but he needed a lot of the information Ravyn would give him for quotes when he did press conferences. She was a whole hell of a lot smarter than Valentine was.
She touched his arm. Ihatedthat. I didn’t have a problem with her touching other men. It was him I didn’t like.
“Didn’t you say it affects your wolf if you don’t eat in the morning?”
He turned and plastered this totally fake grin on his face. I didn’t trust him at all.
“You’re right. Doctor Key took your coffee. And my maple bar.”
Remind me to get Key a gift basket later. I slid her breakfast over and sat next to her on the table. Key had disappeared with Valentine’s maple bar to poke around with the relics. I wasn’t worried about him alone with this stuff.
“That’s okay. Tell me about you. What have you been up to since you’ve been gone? What made you decide to go to Norway?”
I saw Key start inching his way closer. Valentine was ignoring both of us. He had what he wanted. The rapt attention of a beautiful woman, even if she was faking it. Ravyn was the only one who could get this information out of him, as much as I hated to admit it.
“So, I did one of those ancestry tests. Did you know my relatives came from that area? They were probably fierce Vikings. I went on vacation and started scouting around for places to possibly do a dig. I checked out the village where the Cult of the Aether Sisters lived. Most people don’t live there anymore because of the ghosts.
“I’m a wolf. I’m not scared of a few ghosts. So I went to check out the ruins. The ghosts were there, but they didn’t attack me. They told me where to dig, and I found the room underneath the floor. I called my team out, and the rest is history.”
