So did I, but I didn’t know enough about him, and I was already taking things slowly with Killian. Was Ireallyready to jump back into the world of dating? Yeah, I was. Why should I let Valentine continue to ruin my life? Not all men were cheaters like him. Ripley’s men went all the way to Hell to rescue her. Killian was amazing. Doctor Key was a little eccentric but totally brilliant.

My dating ban was officially over. Valentine could suck it. I was back, bitches.

I leaned over where only Ripley could hear.

“Killian is an amazing kisser. He beat the shit out of Valentine earlier, and it was just so sexy,” I whispered.

She held out her fist under the table so I could bump it.

“I fully approve of kissing your familiar and kicking Valentine’s ass.”

“What made you choose this sandwich shop?” Killian asked.

“Oh, when I went to fetch Valentine from the pub, he had a rapt audience of college girls listening to his woes about how Ravyn didn’t wait for him while he was gone. He was drunker than Cooter Brown, and I made him leave. I was almost certain the academy girls would attack me, but I smoothed it over. I asked if they knew the best place to eat, and they told me about this lovely sandwich place. It’s quite good.”

“What did you get?” I asked.

“Well, I decided to try the turkey and avocado.”

My favorite. Ripley pinched me, and I nearly dropped my sandwich. I was used to our pinches and nudges.

“How do you like it?” Ripley said, pretending like nothing was wrong.

“It’s quite good. I can see why Ravyn is a fan. I’ve heard rumors about a speakeasy in the Academy of the Profane. I’m not quite sure what those co-eds were doing at the dirty pub Valentine was at.”

“It’s in the basement of one of the dorms,” I said. “I have fond memories of that speakeasy, but it’s not hard to get banned from it. If they thought Valentine was a good idea, they probably aren’t allowed.”

“Or they are at the age where they think older men are more exciting, even if they happen to be a big stinking trash fire,” Ripley said.

I held up my cup of tea.

“Remember when we were that age?”

She touched her cup with mine and laughed. We were that stupid once.

“Where’s Felix and the guys?” Killian asked.

I kicked Killian under the table. I had warned Ripley over text that Key has some weird sixth sense and had guessed Killian’s secret. She would have made them stay home, so Felix and Reyson didn’t get exposed. I didn’t think Key was an enemy, but I didn’t know him well enough yet.

“They don’t come with me everywhere. I wanted to see my twin, and they are getting ready for the dodgeball game.”

I had already bought snacks for that, and Killian and I planned to watch when I got off from work. I threw my garbage in the trash and brushed my hands off. As much as I wanted to hang out with my sister, we needed to get to work. I preferred hanging out at my place or hers.

“Ready?”

“Always.”

Chapter12

Key

Witches were utterly fascinating—especially twins. I’d heard rumors about the two that ran the museum and the library here. There were rumblings in the dark web from Dorian Gray and a witch that one of them was vital to toppling deals made with demons. I knew Ravyn’s sister had a god at her museum and that they were most likely responsible for her familiar having their body back.

I wasn’t going to press and reveal I knew that because I didn’t want to be connected to Dorian Gray and that nonsense in the news recently. But, honestly, who did that? You had to be a special kind of stupid to manipulate any kind of God like that.

I knew Ravyn and Killian had been in Hell recently because it had been on the news. Valentine should have known it too, but he acted like neither of the twins hadn’t gone through something traumatic. It was not the time for mending romances. She seemed not to be able to stand him, and based on the little I knew, she had every right to.

Blood locks had been around for ages. As far as I knew, there was no way of getting into one without the blood of the witch who enchanted it or the people they allowed access to. However, Ravyn seemed confident she could get into this one with her twin.
