Ravyn frowned.
“I can’t tell with either of you. You and Felix scream warlock from your auras to the vibes you give off. Whoisthis guy? Valentine doesn’t take orders from anyone. Do you remember when I introduced him to sushi and told him he wouldn’t like it if he ate the entire portion of wasabi they gave him? He ate the whole thing just to spite me, then tried to pretend like his soul wasn’t leaving his body as he swallowed it.”
“Oh, my Lilith, I forgot about that. He tried to pretend like it was delicious while his nose was leaking snot all up in his chin. It was beautiful.”
“So, who exactly is Doctor Key, and why is Valentine letting him boss him around?”
That was a damned good question. And how did he know the truth about me?
Chapter8
Ravyn
Iwas super pissed. Valentine felt like he not only had the right to knock on my door this early but to get jealous of Killian and try tohithim. How many women did he fuck in that book he sent me? I stopped reading after the first graphically described encounter. It wasn’t just that it was him cheating on me. He tried to write his sex scenes from his partner’s point of view, and he just didn’t understand how vaginas worked, even if I had a good time with him in bed.
Killian and I were carrying our breakfast over to the museum. I pretty much loved the fact that he made breakfast for me every morning. We were throwing out theories for Doctor Key.
For starters, he was gorgeous. He looked like Peter Pan if he had grown up to be a seven-foot-tall warlock. He just had this look like he craved chaos and trouble. Killian said he found the whole altercation and him kicking Valentine’s ass hilarious. Valentine had an ego. The Valentine I knew would have fired him on the spot for that, then gone after Killian. He didn’t do that. Helistenedand left with him.
Doctor Key radiated alotof power. Like, more than any warlock I’d ever met before. Reyson and Lilith level power, but nothing else was adding up. Reyson and Lilith had blinding golden auras. They also had silver eyes. No one else had that color.
Doctor Key’s aura was pure warlock, and his eyes were a sparkling green that matched his flaming red hair. Ripley had said nothing about Reyson being able to shape shift into a known species on Earth. She told me about all the other kinky shit he was into. He was obsessed with shifter dick. He checked that off his bucket list, but he’d probably shape shift into a shifter to check all his bases with the knot if it were actually possible.
I always liked to eliminate all possibilities when unraveling the things that came into my museum. Doctor Key was a mystery, but I knew I could get to the bottom of it.
Valentine was nowhere to be found when I got to my office, and Doctor Key was lounging at my desk.
“I thought it wise to leave Valentine at the warehouse. He seems to have certain ideas about what’s going to happen while he’s here. The witch made an impression on him the last time he was here, and after that entrance you made, I see why. The green haired dual natured creature is quite fascinating to me, and I think we should protect him from jealous wolves. But, he seemed to be able to handle himself just fine. So, what are you and who made you?”
“Nope. No way. You don’t get to ask questions. We’ve been trying to look into you since Valentine called from the ship and said you were his expert on the cult. You don’t exist anywhere for a so-called expert. Not even a blog. We can’t even find where you got your doctorate, and no one knows your first name.”
“Wow, that was a lot and a little personal considering I don’t know your green haired friend’s name either.”
Killian and I exchanged looks. We were trying to keep his dual nature a secret. Hybrids didn’t exist in the supernatural world. Trust Reyson to make two of them over his favorite cookies. Some people out there wouldn’t be as fascinated with it as Doctor Key. They’d want to hurt Felix and Killian. I’m sure there were some familiars out there that wanted the same thing. Their witch or warlock might not want to give that gift to them for fear their familiars would leave them. That was Ripley’s first thought.
“There’s no possible way you could know Killian is dual natured. Everything about him is warlock.”
Doctor Key stretched like a cat and yawned like this entire conversation bored him.
“Oh, yes. He’s definitely a warlock. Anyone who meets him would know that right away. His secret is safe. I know the look of a man who has flown freely with the moon and stars gazing down at his back.”
“You’re just bullshitting,” I scoffed.
Killian was deathly silent because Doctor Key had not only guessed he was dual natured but that he could fly. So who the fuckwasthis guy? He just shrugged.
“Maybe. His secret is safe with me, and I won’t press because you don’t know me yet. Valentine wasn’t paying attention when I said it because he thought Killian was sniffing around his woman.”
“Okay, first off, Ravyn isnothis woman. They got together the last time he was here. Ravyn thought it was a thing, but he ghosted her when he left for a dig, and the only communication she had from him until now was a signed copy of a book he wrote of all the women he fucked while she was sitting here waiting for him to call.”
“Yeah, he was kind of a shit at the dig with the locals. I haven’t managed to finish one of his books, but they are lies. By the time we finished, he was banned from every pub in the village and had gotten his ass kicked a few times.”
Whowasthis guy? It sounded like he didn’t like Valentine any more than I did.
“Why are you here if you don’t like him?”
“I get you have your doubts, but I really am an expert on the Cult of the Aether Sisters, even if you’ve never heard of me before. I wouldn’t have inserted myself in this, but this discovery so close to a rare lunar eclipse is serious.”
“Yeah, we found they were wiped out the last time this eclipse happened,” I said.
