“You seem really interested in impressing this girl,” Ren said.

“Well, yeah. She’s awesome.”

“Because she likes dodgeball and can kick your ass?”

“That’s not it, and you know it,” I said. “Her dad is a fucking god, and you all can feel the power she gives off. She could be walking around like that Krauss girl, and she’s not.”

“Exactly,” Church said, coming out of the bathroom towel drying his hair. “Belladonna Mortem is the strongest vampire in this school under me. I’m not really interested in the pissing contests, and neither is George. It’s refreshing. You’d think the same if you were being challenged or recruited.”

“For what it’s worth, Chantico agrees with you,” Oscar said.

Chantico was his ferret. She was the spirit of one of his ancestors who was named after the Aztec god of the hearth. She was similar to a familiar but had extra abilities. Chantico could go incorporeal and had the knowledge of every single brujo and bruja in Oscar’s family line. Oscarusuallylistened to her.

“A few peoplehavechallenged us, and every group except the vampires has tried to recruit us, and that’s only because Belladonna Mortem is an idiot who thinks supernaturals shouldn’t mix.”

“She’s an idiot,” Church said. “She likes to pretend her grandmother wasn’t an eagle shifter and her entire bloodline is vampire, but I’m willing to bet if she took a DNA test, there’s more than just shifter in there.”

“Probably,” Ren snorted. “Anyway, wearebeing challenged. It’s just not as obvious. They are all testing us in magical combat. Zion has us with different partners every timeexceptyour witch. Since we're just freshmen, we’re supposed to be doing basic shields and harmless attacks. Everyone was taught different things by their parents to prepare for when they got their magic. A few idiots have put some shitty things online. Not everyone is following the assignment in magical combat.”

“Exactly,” Oscar said. “And some of uswanta challenge, so it’s not a big thing. Most of the people who have tried recruiting us only want Ren. They don’t want to deal with a deaf brujo or learning sign language.”

“And I don’t go anywhere Oscar doesn’t go,” Ren said.

I was with Oscar most of the time, but I had a little more freedom to leave campus because I wasn’t a student. Sometimes, I’d leave with a shopping list from everyone in our dorm, or I’d have to meet with the agency I worked for to report in on Oscar. Oscar was still learning to lip read. He might never master it, but he was trying. Ren would always be there to sign if I needed to be somewhere.

All of that must have gone down when I wasn’t around because they would have gotten a bit of lion in their face. Lions were pretty easygoing, but you really didn’t want to piss us off. Like, I’d eat a bitch for saying something like that to someone I was signing for.

George knew sign language. She hadn’ttoldme that to impress me, but I’d caught her eavesdropping. She knew Zion was giving Oscar private lessons before I could tell her, and she only would have known that if she saw me signing it. She wasn’t close enough to hear the conversation.

I could have told both of them that, but I hadn’t. Chantico was probably sensing all kinds of things I wasn’t, andshewas telling Oscar to go say hello. A spirit guide probably knewwaymore about what Oscar needed than I did.

Chantico could talk some sense into Oscar. I needed to make sure I smelled good, and my mane looked better than ever. I needed to give a special witch the best orgy she’d ever have in her life. She was a freshman, so this was probably her first one.

I was still going to make sure it was the best oneever.

Matilda had a whole waitlist for the moon orgy. I was honestly shocked I had two people. We were nearly identical except for our eye color, and she lightened her hair, but we hadverydifferent experiences dating. Matilda had always been a flirt but devoted to Mags. My dating life had always been pretty shitty.

The guy I lost my virginity to wasn’t even interested in me. He was a senior when I was a junior. It turned out he thought my dad could make him graduate high school a billionaire, so he never had to work. I didn’t figure that out untilafterI slept with him.

I could have turned him into a roach and stepped on him. My dad would have, and he taught me how. My entire family was immensely powerful, but I knew not everything needed to be solved with magic. So, I took a page out of Loki and Balthazar’s book. I told everyone he was having trouble getting it up, so he asked me to wear his mom’s panties before he could get turned on. Bragging you slept with someone wasn’t a huge thing in the supernatural world, so he couldn’t do that after I dumped him. Hecouldmake up embarrassing stories about me, so I beat him to it.

“Should I wear my hair up or down?” I asked.

There were no rules you couldn’t invite someone from outside of campus to the moon orgy, so Mags was going. They both knew what I was worried about. Matilda grabbed my brush and started fiddling with my hair.

“It’s pretty down, but I don’t get vibes off either of them that they are using you for Reyson.”

“Every single guy I’ve slept with was only using me for Dad.”

“Yeah, but you haven’t really slutted it up yet,” Mags said. “You slept with two of them and then gave up. Church likes you foryourpower. West hasn’t come to sit with us, so I haven’t spoken with him, but I’ve watched him during magical combat. I don’t think West gives a shit who your parents are.”

“I agree. And we’re in college now, so if they get stupid later, it’s expected we fuck them up,” Matilda said. “I changed my mind about your hair. We have the same hair and it’s still not totally cool at night. We’re going to get sweaty. We should wear it up.”

“Good call.”

Matilda made damned sure my hair and makeup were perfect. I could do it myself, but my twin was much better at that than I was. I grabbed my favorite perfume oil and rubbed it on my wrists and neck. I wasreadyfor my first moon orgy.
