The only reason I hadn’t told Azren Mags’s secret was that it wasn’t mine to tell. Azren knew my dad, and they knew Felix. They also knew my Uncle Killian. Azren knew damned well my dad liked giving familiars their bodies back, so it wasn’t ahugereach ours could turn into a witch. Azren was a friend. They might even be my boyfriend, but Mags wasn’t having it. Her fur was sticking up and there was a low growl in her throat as she bared her teeth at Azren.
Azren just rolled their eyes.
“Shift!” they boomed, forcing the shift on Mags.
Mags rose to her feet. Matilda and Mags were both glaring at Azren, but I’d spent more time around Azren. They wouldn’t have forced the shift on Mags unless they had a damned good reason. Azren seemed all about consent when we were together. They didn’t do a damned thing to me without asking permission first.
“You’d better not be checking out my girlfriend’s tits,” Matilda growled.
Azren just chuckled.
“I wouldn’t dream of it. Though, I do wonder if my good friend Reyson knew that would happen when he gave your girlfriend her body back. No, I have a gift. Lindsay has been having a major fit of abuse of power. I’ve managed to fix a few things. Todd Gravestone should have been expelled for what he did to your friend Dexter. It was his third strike. That didn’t happen because of who he’s dating.
“I dislike him immensely and he earned his expulsion, so I made sure it happened. Now, this leaves room for a transfer student. Your dad Balthazar happens to be amazing at computers, so Mags can be a new transfer student effective immediately. I took the liberty of having the ghosts pick uniforms. Put these on so Matilda doesn’t bite me. I’ve already received a call from a very angry wealthy person asking for your familiar to be removed from campus for pissing on their son. I’m sure there’s a story there, but I was already going to do this before I got the call. It worked out because now you don’t have to explain where your familiar went and Mags can attend all her classes.”
They handed Mags the men’s uniform like she preferred. Azren seriously did that for Mags? Todd had to go. He was a menace. Azren could have pulled any new student in and they manipulated the system to get my familiar here.
“I regret nothing. I’d piss on him again.”
“He might be into you pissing on him like this and then you’d have to stop me from killing him again. He grabbed my ass. Maybe he shouldn’t start shit he can’t finish. Thank you, by the way.”
“Yeah, seriously,” I said.
This was right up there with birthday cake when it wasn’t my birthday. My guys had noticed my familiar spent more time with my twin than she did me. Azren had to have noticed, too. It wouldn’t be that hard to put two and two together.
I so wanted to fuck them now.
“One more thing,” Azren said. “Lindsay Krauss has been sitting on bringing a dodgeball team to this school. Zion Skinner would be coaching. The board just wants to know student interest. Can you put out feelers and maybe post on social media?”
I shrieked. If they weren’t sitting behind that desk, I’d so be sucking their dick right now. My familiar a full student and the ability to be a proper girlfriend to my sisterandthe opportunity to play college dodgeball under Zion Skinner?
Shit officially lost. All because my brother’s boyfriend yelled at me to duck.

It was officially Samhain as of midnight. The ghosts announced themselves by knocking over every book in my cottage. Some of those books were older than their dusty bones. I just sighed. They were menaces when they wanted to be and it was always worse on Samhain.
I missed teaching already. I picked Freya up but my history class was canceled today. I assigned them a paper to do on their down time. Freya was with the Bell witches trying to figure why she met the same three men every time I dropped her in a body. I hoped she found those answers because she deeply loved them.
Zion Skinner was kind of a crabby bastard, but I liked him. He was in my office before classes started.
“It’s about fucking time! I was promised a dodgeball team. Between the Reyes kid and some of the reflexes I’ve seen in magical combat, I think I can whip them into a winning team. I needtime, though. I’ve been giving the Reyes kid private lessons in case he wants to show the league what a massive fucking error they made with him. I can tell by how some of them fight that they have experience with magically-infused balls. Some of them are hopeless. They’d take a fire ball to the face and ruin the entire game.”
“I don’t think Lindsay intended to bring this to the students, but we are all big fans in my realm. Drake Nathara was adopted by one of my reapers after she came for his parents. I watched him grow up. He’s one of the best goalies I’ve ever seen.”
“You didn’t even have to give me that backstory. Boy has a hell of a gaze. He’s snared people across the field when they accidentally made eye contact. You can’t get the ball in the goal unless you’re watching what the goalie is doing. He snags their gaze, they are fucked. I never like the Krauss woman, but I’m not sure why shewouldn’twant a dodgeball team here. They are paying for upkeep on a really nice stadium for the rent money it brings in, but having our own team playing on it would triple that rent money, not to mention donations from alumni when the team starts winning.”
“You know that. The board knows that. I know that and I didn’t even want to be interim headmaster. Lindsay desperately wants to be as relevant as her brilliant great aunt and she’s going about it the wrong way.”
“When can I hold tryouts?”
“I signed up for social media on this realm. The board was just waiting to see if students would be interested. It seems like they are quite excited about it. I’m planning on calling the board if they don’t call me first. I’ll let you know.”
As Zion was leaving, George slipped into my office with Matilda and Mags. It wasn’t George that was here to see me. I was pretty sure she was just there for twin support. Matilda was on a mission and she had a clipboard. I hadn’t spent much time around this twin, but Reyson gushed about all his kids. I knew this one tended to know what she wanted, went after it, and tended to get it.
Matilda was pretty determined. She didn’t give me a chance to say anything, and I was pretty sure she never took a breath just in case I might want to.
“If we’re going to have a dodgeball team, we need cheerleaders. Cheerleading is just as much a sport as dodgeball is and we have our own competitions. It’s not some silly little thing where we cheer on athletes. Between us using our supernatural and natural abilities, we are just as much athletes as the people we are cheering on.
