The guys went on ahead. I was bordering on late for history because Matilda and Mags needed to make sure I hadn’t gone insane and was completely sure these were my people I wanted to reveal myself to. They both approved, but I’d been keeping this secret for a long time. I was sure.

The hallway was mostly empty because everyone was in class. We were rushing because we didn’t want to be late. Professors shut the door when they started their lecture and trying to open it and come in late was a pretty shitty idea. They docked a ton of points from your dorm and their revenge was epic. Professor Jinx gave some warlock a magical boil before kicking him out. Church said the vampire professors would use that opportunity to nip a snack. Church said it wassupposedto also be a teaching moment about not letting anyone overpower you.

Azren and I had been snuggling and kissing in our tutoring sessions. They gaveamazingfoot rubs and gave them out often. No one could know that outside of Matilda and Mags. No one could suspect it either. So, if I was late to history, my dorm was going to hate me for losing them points and I wasn’t exactly immune to god magic. I didn’t want to risk it.

I wasn’t paying attention. I was gossiping with Matilda. The banshee with the pigtails and lollipop didn’t work out, but there was a sophomore banshee named Mina who might be a bigger flirt than my twin was. Matilda and Mags were both into her, but playing hard to get. Mags had a big secret and she and my twin came as a set. We were discussing all our secrets in twin code.

“George, Matilda! Duck!” I heard from across the hall.

It sounded like Dexter. Some magical species had to rely on that. Others threw up shields. A pixie wouldn’t tell someone they thought was a witch to duck without a reason since a pixie and a witch would usually throw up shields. I didn’t question it. I grabbed my twin and hit the ground.

I looked up when I heard two shrieks. Kaylee was standing there looking horrified. Was she creeping in the halls trying to hex me again when she had a better chance of catching me unaware? Dexter told me to duck, so the hex would have gone past me and hit someone.

“This is all your fault, George!” Kaylee shrieked, running to whomever that magic hit.

Matilda and I got to our feet and looked. Headmaster Krauss wasnothaving a good go of things. Was I evil for laughing? Minerva was related to these assholes, and she’d be laughing. Matilda and Mags were dying. I gave them the finger with both hands.

It wasn’t like either of them noticed. Headmaster Krauss couldn’t see much of anything because both of her eyes were swollen shut and her entire body was covered in pustules. Kaylee was over there checking on her mom and insisting this was all my fault. Our headmaster was going to have to get home and stay in a dark room drinking healing potions for at least two months because Kaylee flung a nasty curse at me.

Dexter knew I was trying to get the ghosts to answer a question. He didn’t care what that question was because he figured it was witch stuff. Kaylee took offense at Dexter just for existing, so I told him the campus ghosts were rooting for someone to put them in their place. Pretty sure Dexter just did that by telling me to duck.

“I got all of that on video,” Dexter said. “Want me to tag you when I post it?”

“Holy shit, Dexter. I see why my brother went ape shit over you so fast.”

“I play the long game. When I say my revenge will be epic, I mean it.”

“I’ll warn our idiot brother not to piss you off,” Matilda said.

“Why is there shrieking outside my classroom?” Azren asked, joining us in the hall.

Dexter handed Azren his phone. Azren had this serene look on their face as they watched the video.

“Hmm, yes. Most sane witches watch what they put into this world so it doesn’t come back and bite them on the ass. I’ll get the headmaster home so she can start her long, painful recovery and maybe contemplate her life choices,” Azren drawled as they set off to portal Headmaster Krauss home.

Matilda looked at me and we fell out laughing again.

“I’m fucking awesome and that was hilarious, but I think I’m missing something,” Dexter said.

Azren had taken Kaylee with them, so it was safe to say this without a Krauss overhearing and firing Azren or trying to force them into anything. Matilda leaned over to whisper just in case.

“Azren could just touch her and heal that hex right out of her system. They aren’t going to bring up that they have that ability because those two have been dicks to everyone.”

Dexter let out this evil giggle.

“I’m going to tag the entire school. I want them to know it was me.”

“Be careful, Dexter. I didn’t hex the headmaster. All I did was get out of the way. I’m pretty sure Headmaster Krauss is going to find a way to blame me.”

“Oh, I planned for that. That’s why I took the video. People on the board are going to see it, too. She can’t do a damned thing to either of us. She’s going to have to worry about her own ass. Headmaster Krauss got hexed by a freshman. All she cares about is her power trip. That would make her look really bad. She’s going to try to bury this. I’m sure she’ll ask me to delete my post, but she’s not going to be able to see it until the swelling in her eyes goes down and that’s just enough time for it to go viral. She really should have just accepted myverypolite request not to have my dead name on all my school paperwork. Literally, those two are the only people here who have a problem with calling me Dexter.”

I pulled Dexter into a bear bug and we started walking to history.

“Pixie justice is epic,” Matilda said.

“Well, yeah. We’re the cuter, more cuddly version of the Fae. Another type of Fae would have just killed them for the dishonor and gone back to the Fae realm where they wouldn’t be prosecuted. Pixies are more about mayhem than murder when people want to fuck around and find out. I have a feeling those two are going to need a few more lessons, but I hope that was enough for your ghosts.”

“Even if it wasn’t, that was beautiful, Dexter.”
