. . .

Church never came back after George appeared in our dorm room in a cloud of purple smoke to kidnap him. We were taking bets if they were just having areallylong makeup sex session or he was a dick to her and she smote him. Or Bethany was creeping andsawhim be an ass to her and dick punched him so hard, he died. Matilda could have eaten him or Michael could have flown him to a roof somewhere and left him to freeze in the snow.

Our girlfriend was a god, but she had some pretty powerful siblings. I knew there were other realms with Hellhounds andangels, but there weren’t that many in this one. They could fuck us up just as easily as George could.

We were joking about it, but we were kind of worried about Church. George didn’t strike me as the smiting type of god, but she caused a whole weather disturbance, and shemighthave when Kaylee hurt Oscar. Her dad was theonlything that calmed her down and I had a feeling her family had a lot of experience with that. I doubted Professor Morningstar was there when she kidnapped Church.

Last night was honestlya lot.She had to reveal her secret before she was ready to and then we found out the maintenance guy was a god without magic who might be killing witches. I couldn’t say I wouldn’t kill someone who was supposed to care about me but was being an asshole for something I couldn’t help under those circumstances. I couldn’t wave my hand and kill someone like she could, but a small nick of my fangs could do the job.

I liked Church. He was a good friend, and he always treated her well. I was hoping he kept that vibe after he found out her secret and they were just off somewhere fucking like bunnies.

I went down to the dining hall for breakfast. West usually got there early to fix her latte and Church grabbed her breakfast. Ren usually had something stolen in his pockets and Oscar would pass her a new drawing. He was doing some kind of comic with her as an anime superhero and he’d give her a new page every day.

None of them were here yet. I was kind of the odd man out in that I wasn’t sharing a dorm with them. It would have been a bonding experience and their dorm room was great for four people, but it would have been crowded with five. I basically had my dorm to myself. My roommate was an incubus and everyone wanted a piece of him. I was pretty sure he was having a goodnight with entire dorm rooms most nights. I had the place to myself to play my violin.

Still, I could do this. It might be just me, but I was a part of this group. I didn’t have super speed like Church, but I fixed George’s latte and I’d been eating breakfast with everyone long enough to learn their preferred beverage. I made sure to get Matilda and Mags their lattes, too. They were her sister and her familiar, but they were my friends, too. I didn’t know Mina or Belladonna as well, but I made an extra trip to get coffee for them, too.

I was just sitting down when Mina and Belladonna joined me with their food. They were looking around for Matilda and Mags because they were usually here by now. I didn’t know how much they knew and I didn’t know if it was my place to tell them. I cleared my throat. Mina just smirked at me.

“Don’t worry. Our girlfriends filled us in while George was out with Church. Big shocker.”

“Then Matilda came and slept in my bed and Mags went to sleep with Mina because George brought Church back to their dorm room and they said he breathes too loud in his sleep. Not snoring, just too loud for shifter ears. It probably wouldn’t have irritated them as much if he wasn’t a man.”

I started laughing.

“We had some theories about Church’s untimely demise for being a dick to a baby god who loves him, but I had no idea he was in danger for breathing too loud around lesbians.”

“It’s theaudacity,” Belladonna said, tossing her white hair over her shoulder.

“I don’t think you can help that in your sleep. Especially when you are sleeping next to someone you love,” I pointed out.

“There they are,” Mina said, perking up.

George, Matilda, and Mags were strolling in the dining hall arm in arm. George was wearing the boys’ uniform instead of theone the girls usually wore. Holy fuck. I was guessing she used her magic to tailor it a bit because it fit her like a glove and showed off all of her curves. It almost wasn’t fair. I was a good-looking guy, and I didn’t look remotely that good in my uniform.

That was hot as shit. She was wearing her long, black hair down and had brushed out her curls so her hair fell in soft waves down her back. She’d played up her eyes with eyeliner and mascara so her silver eyes were popping. George was an utter goddess, and she wasmine.

This asshole bear shifter whose shoes Ren bragged about stealing from jumped in front of her. He had a black eye, and he was walking kind of funny, but he stomped in front ofmygirlfriend like he even noticed her before she basically announced she was a god in front of the entire Academy of the Profane. This fuckhead had his chest puffed up like he was about to do a thing.

Icouldhave gone over there and defended my girlfriend’s honor, but she was out as a god now and could handle this herself. I leaned back in my chair and took a sip of my coffee.

“This isn’t going to end well. Want to take bets on what she does to him?”

I might have a slight problem with wanting to bet on a lot of things.

“I’m not going to bet on what Ithinkshe’s going to do. I went to high school with Eugene,” Belladonna said. “What sheshoulddo is put some kind of god magic on him so all his body hair falls out and he’s hairless every time he shifts. I’ll bet naked bears lookweird. It would knock him down a peg and he’d probably never leave his dorm until his hair grew back. That’s a long time everyone would only have to deal with him in class. I’m a big fan of doing that to him.”

Damn.That was brutal.

“You really don’t like him, do you?”

“He was two years ahead of me. He decided I was going to be a conquest on my first day of high school. Ihadto put him in his place because my parents are racist and I had no interest in guys. He took it personally and tried to embarrass me. He’s an idiot, but he’s trainable. You just need to teach him a few times that you’re stronger than him.”

“Shh. I think he’s about to embarrass himself,” Mina said.

We all looked over. They were close enough that we could see and hear everything.
