“You seem to have some handy skills with your phone that I won’t announce in front of the stabby one who doesn’t like you that having those apps installed might help you catch a killer,” Petros said.
“What’s Lucian doing with his phone?” I demanded.
Because he was already creeping on Sage in his sleep. He’d better not be doing nasty things with his phone.
“Nothing bad,” Morgana reassured me.
“It’s a start,” Khalid said. “We need everything we can get.”
“What’s everyone’s schedule? We should travel together,” Sage said.
Yes, we should. We started comparing classes, and we had a lot of them together. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, we all had history first thing in the morning, followed by arcane magic, and then potions. We had a two-hour break that I guess was for lunch and study, then defense classes.
Tuesday and Thursday were where our schedules differed. We all had shifting together in the morning because I guess that was a thing we could all do, but after that, Sage went to a class about caring and bonding with familiars, Lucian went to some vampire etiquette class so I guess he didn’t snap and bite me again, Khalid was doing research with a history professor, and I was doing nature shite with the fairies.
We had another two-hour break for lunch and study, and that was when our work assignment studies came into play. I was in the kitchens helping prepare dinner on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Khalid went back to his history professor. Headmaster Mykene had assigned Sage to her office, which usually would have made me suspicious, but now that I knew Sage was a big bad in her previous life, it was probably a mentorship thing.
“I knew I was going to be working with Professor Kane doing history stuff,” Khalid said.
“I wanted the kitchen,” I said.
Because aside from music, I really enjoyed cooking.
“We didn’t really talk about jobs, but I needed to have one to go here,” Sage said.
“My parents let me get kidnapped, but they haven’t cut me off.”
“Oh, on your desks are your welcome packets,” Morgana said. “She told you about your trusts, right? You won’t get complete access to them until you graduate, but they’ve given you debit cards with an allowance so you can buy necessities. They don’t use it for tuition because they think working builds character.”
Elliot snorted. I rather liked that bloke.
“I’ve got plenty of character.”
“Samesies,” I said, holding out my fist.
Elliot bumped my fist.
Petros yawned again.
“As much as I hate rules, there’s a serial killer out there and we need to get back to our dorms.”
Damn. I didn’t want to leave Sage, but I had to. And I didn’t get my kiss. The mood was ruined now. I was going to have to plan something much better for our first kiss.
Ifinally had time to really explore my dorm. They’d brought everything from my hostel, including my insulin. My clothes were all here, and so was my laptop. I logged into the bank account they gave me, and the allowance was way more than generous. My father didn’t believe in that. You had to work for your money, but he would only allow me to babysit.
We kept our dorm windows open for Iman because she apparently didn’t like to be cooped up. I was worried about that with the killer out.
“It’s someone from the freshman class. It sounds like they are awake, but not taking on other reincarnations. I’m pretty sure Iman is doing recon, and now your boyfriend can talk to her.”
Iman cocked her head at me and started purring. Yeah, I guess that was valid.
“Is he, though?”
“What?”
“My boyfriend.”
“Girl, they arealldevoted to you. They are connected to you in this life, but Liam has it bad.”
